Sunday.
Seven years ago, purely as a hobby,
Mr. Wing acquired three registered
Guernsey cows lor his CloverhlU
farm. Since then, he has gradually
added to that tiny herd until now 63
bead of pure-bred registered Quern -neys,
Including calves, graze on the
green hills of hla farm. Of that total,
35 are milking cows. Mr. Wing ex
pects them to produce 100 gallons
of milk a day, with that amount
gradually Increased as the Guernsey
nerd grows laiger. Delivery service
will start Sunday morning. ,
Showers for Cows
Southern Oregon's newest dairy la

from head to foot before milking.
In the milking parlor, the walls are
enameled, there Is an air-condition
Ing and ventilating system and sani
tation facilities are the moat modern
obtainable. From there, the milk
passes Into the milk room, where It
tuns through an arlator and la bot
tled and ready for delivery In five
mlnutoa after leaving the milk palls.
Plans used by Mr, Wing In con
structing the modern dairy were
developed by the University of Cali
fornia In conjunction with V. E.
Jorgensen, who owns one of the two
such type dairies In California. An
entire carload of special corrugated
concrete was used In constructing the
floors In the corrals and buildings.
This flooring Is called Sonoma, Valley,
and will be the only one In Oregon.

Mr. Wing, active In civic affairs In
Medford, was former head of ft real
estate concern bearing hit name,
The raising of -purebred Guernsey
cows has long been a hobby of .Mr.
Win', and. upon his retirement
from the real estate business In Med
ford, he Is entering the retail milk
business with high quality milk, pro
duced by his herd.
There are only two In California,
Mr. Wing stated.
Enameled Interiors
All buildings are new and feature
the most modern ventilating systems.
Interiors are finished In white enamel,
with the exception of the milking
parlor, which Is cream color, in the
milking parlor, four cows are milked
by hand at once. There Is a cyclone
fence around the buildings.
All equipment and cattle have been
aocepted by Golden Guernsey I no.,
of Peterborough, N. H., which has
the most rigid requirements for use
of the trade name, Golden Guernsey.
The herd Is an accredited herd for
TB and contagious avbortlon, and
there has never been a reactor on
the place, Mr. Wing stated.
Included In the herd la Chlcona
Pernau, a grandson of the famous
Langwater Traveler, who was prob
ably one of the greatest animals In
the breed, having sold for 111,000.
Also In the herd Is Ann of Lyndon,
formerly owned by D. R. Bark ley of
Everett, Wn. She Is a great-granddaughter
of Ohuckanut Xlnetta, one
of the best producers In the breed.
Other cattle for foundation stock
were purchased from Dr. A. MaoRae
Smith of Belllngham, Wn., Dr. J. P.
Scott of Yakima, Wn., and Herb
Howell, who la now director of tha
John Jacob As tor experiment station.

Whole Raw Milk
The milk produced will be grade A
whole raw milk. According to analy
sis, prepared by the department of
merchandise education of Good
Housekeeping, Golden Guernsey milk

contains M5 percent more sulphur,
percent more magnesia and 30 per
cent more lime than other high
quality milks.
The story of Golden Guernsey milk
Is a romantic one, the quaint old
Island monks of St. Michel started
the breed 10 centuries ago on the
Island of Guernsey off the coast ot
Prance. Their goat was quality, flavor,
high percentage of butterfat and dis
tinctive yellow color, the color we
now know to show the milk high In
carotene, a primary source of vita
min A.
In charge of deliveries of the milk
will be Harold Wing, brother or the
owner. Tim White, who has been
employed by Mr. Wing for the past
year, will be herdsman. O. A Rob
bins, formerly of the Puller Rancho
at Corona, Cal., will be In charge ot
distribution, and the plant.

German Plea For
Parole Is Denied
PORTLAND, July 8. (AP) Deny

The court, denying the parole
plea, said there were no grounds for
leniency since the company bilked
some 38 persons of nearly S30.000.

Frank, who was recently sentenced
to a five-year term.
Widow Beckers To
Serve Life Term
LIEGE, Belgium, July 8. (AP)
While a crowd outside the court
house screamed "kill her I" Maria
Petltjean Beckers, known as the
Widow Beckers," was convicted to
day of 11 poison murders and was
sentenced to death.
The sentence, however, automati
cally was commuted to life impris
onment, aa capital punishment no
longer is invoked In Belgium.
The ea-year-old woman burst Into
hysterical weeping when the ver
dict was announced.
BEND, July (p) A man iden
tified by State Officer Horace Betts
as Richard Mundy, 30, Sioux City,
Iowa, and two-time Texas convict,
was arrested last night on a ranch
near La pine, 30 miles south of here,
on a charge of armed robbery and
raid of the home of Earl Watson,
Deschutes county rancher.
Mundy was taken Into custody
after gun play in which Betts, upon
trapping Munday In the ranch home
of Charles Ertckson, boldly faced the
fugitive's leveled revolver, after kick
ing down the door.
The officer aald Mundy. a hitch
hiker, went to the Watson home last
night, held up Mrs. Watson and her
sister-in-law, Olive Watson, bound
and gagged them. and took $5. After
threatening the women with a to
vnlver, Betts said, Mundy fled to the
vacant Krlckson home. ,

Mundy criminally attacked a woman
near La pine waa also being made,
although the only chargea filed were
armed robbery.
Move 28 Prisoners
To Grim Alcatraz
BAN FRANCISCO, July 8. (AP)
The transfer of 28 federal prisoners
to Alcatraz Island was completed to
day. The train bringing their prison
cell railroad coach from Leavenworth
arrived at the East Bay terminus at
7:58 a.m. The coach was detached,
moved onto a barge and towed to
the grim establishment on the San
Francisco bay Island.
It was reliably reported no "big
name" convicts were In the group.
