Office Entered Office at the Med
ford Lumber company was broken
Into sometime Wednesday night or
early Thursday morning by a thief
who gained entrance through a win
dow. O. Collins, manager, reported
to city polloe. Mr. Collins told
authorities that a new padlock, two
pipes, a gold-plated fountain pen
and a bunch of keys were stolen.

ath national forest staff at Yreka,
Cal were visitors this morning at
tha Star ranger atatlon In the Ap-
plegate district of the Rogue River
national forest. The men maae tne
trip In a pickup truck from Yreka
traveling via the Klamath river, to
Donomore, Dutchman peak and Ap-
plegate.
Foresters Confer L. K. Mays, as
sistant forester In the Portland re
gional fire control office, arrived here
by motorcar last night to confer with
executives of the Rogue River na.

Closing Four Days The United
States navy recruiting office in the
Medford federal building will be
closed next week from Monday to
Thursday Inclusive. The recruiting
officer In charge, George E. Patter
son, will be at the district recruiting
headquarters in Portland- on official
business during that period. The
office here will be opened again Fri
day morning.
Airport Arrivals Arrivals at Med
ford municipal airport today In
cluded a group of United States army
air corps pilots flying North Amer
ican planes. They were Capt. W. M.
Turner. Capt. H. W. Walkor, Lieut.
H. B. Taylor, Lieut. O. A. Scott, MaJ.
F. G. Logg and Lieut. A. L. Blum.
The flight was In charge of MaJ.
John Gardner and MaJ. Paul Bur
rows, regular army pilots, flying
Douglas ships. They were en route
to Hamilton field In San Rafael,
Cal.. from Fort Lewis, Wash. The
planes were refueled here.

terson. United States navy seaman
first class, Is spending a IB-day leave
of absence with his parents. Mr. and
Mrs. Edwin E. Patterson of Route 1.
Patterson enlisted In the navy through
the Medford recruiting offlos In Feb
ruary, 1936, and for the fast two
years has been serving In the con
struction and repair division on the
battleship Tennessee which Is now
stationed In Puget Sound. Upon ex
piration of his leave, Patterson will
Join his ship at San Francisco where
It will arrive next week for the fleet
review by President Roosevelt.

Enlist In Navy July quota of
enlistments In this district has been
designated as three and the quota
has been filled tentatively, it was
announced today by George E. Pat
terson, United States navy reorulter
stationed here. The three youths
selected for enlistment are Charles
H. Paske, Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs.
Charles H. Paske of 1010 South Oak
dale avenue, William Lee Allen of
Grants Pass and Kenneth B. Green
of Klamath Falls. They will leave
here by train next Tuesday evening
for Portland where they will Be given
their final qualifying examlnatlona
If they pass the final tests, they
will be sent Immediately to San
Diego, Cal., for three months of pre
liminary training. Applications to
fill future quotas are now oetng re
ceived by Mr. Patterson at his office
In the Medford federal building.

at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F.
Wortman of Phoenix. Mra. Penning
ton Is a sister of Mra. Clara Kelley,
housekeeper at the Wortman home.

Vacation Over Edward Canoose
city fireman, Is back on the Job after

were guests of relatives. They also
visiting friends and relatives In vari
ous parts of Oklahoma, Kansas and
Colorado. They returned recently to
their home here at 323 South Orange

Visit Lodge Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Hamilton of San Francisco have spent
the past several daya vacationing at
Rogue River Lodge. Mr. Hamilton is
head of an advertising firm in San
Francisco and his wife Is cosmetic

NEW YORK, July 8. (AP) The
stock market experienced Its most
substantial setback today since the
mid-year bull movement began June
20.
After leading Issues had lost $1
to $3 a share, however, there was
little Improvement In the last hour,
and at the finish few Issues were
down more than $2 a share.
The paos of trading Blackened on
the decline. The day's turnover of
about 1,600.000 ahares compared with
2,700.000 yesterday. ...
Business news of a character to
affect the market waa meager, and
broken described the sell-off as a
normal reaction, after the 25 per
cent Increase aince June 20.
A favorable development, was the
weekly report of the movement of
freight, which showed a larger gain
than the normal seasonal Jump for
the period.
