district court tn the Black Kills was
convened.
. Next year, though. Judge Bennett's
courtroom will 1m under 80 feet of

Once It was the county seat of
Pennington county; once It was the
location of the United States land
office; once It was the headquarters
for South Dakota miners; and once it
was the town where men came simply
to spend money. It was a true boom
town.
But now the Rapid Clty-HIll Olty
Isaak Walton league and the Harney
national forest have made all neces
asry arrangements, and Sheridan Is
going to be flooded.
A dsm site to flood the entire val
ley has been located In the national
forest. The forest service will build
the dam. Arrangements are being
made to buy the land which will be
flooded, and more than 100 acres
have already been purchased. Op
tions have been obtained on the ma
jority of the unpurchased land.
The lake created by the dam will
fill the entire valley, covering nearly
400 acres to an average depth of 00
feet. It will be filled with Spring
creek. Horse creek and other small
streams, draining a territory of 150
square miles.
The Xzaak Walton league plans to
develop a resort around the lake.
Present plans call for construction of
a lodge, leasing summer home sites,
and Installing facilities for all kinds
of water sports.

Syphilis germs were kept at that
temperature a year. When thawed
out, they were Just as virulent as
arer. The viruses of human flu and
yellow fever endured six months of
this Intense oold. Afterward they
were still as lively as before.
Apparently the qulck-freeilng had
something to do with this preserva
tion of life. For In leas Intense oold
these and other organisms were most
ly destroyed.
Dr. Turner's experiment are made
la search for an Improved method of
preserving disease organisms for
sdentlflo experiments. Under natural
conditions they usually die when re
moved from their "hosts," the tis
sues which they attack.
