Craterian's Hit
Delights Crowds
Simple, down-to-earth entertain
ment that touches the heart Is the
keynote of the craterlan theatre's
new feature picture, "Romance of the
Llmberlost," the Gtme Stratton-Por-ter
story that had Its world premiere
yesterday at the local showhouse.
Dealing with the sort of "homo
folk" who seem entirely natural and
human, retaining the spirit of Mrs.
Porter's famous characters, "Romance
of the Llmberlost" will undoubtedly
find a popular reaction throughout
the country before It completes Its
showing, If the reaction of the local
patrons Is any criterion. Stirring in
its simplicity, emotional, yet free
from any framboyancy In character
izations, It Is a motion picture that
deserves to be recommended to those
who have become sntlated with too
much sophistication and glamour of
recent film plays.
Jean Parker. In the role of Lourle,
gives a moving portrayal In the star
ring part as the orphan girl who
strives to improve herself In spite
of the many drawbacks with which
she Is confronted, and the bigoted
opinions of those with whom she Is
associated.
Eric Linden, as the young lawyer,
Wayne, who falls In love with the
pretty little swamp girl, eventually,
uses his law training In helping her
and her friends to win freedom from
a false charge of murder, has never
had a better part. It would be diffi
cult to Imagine anyone else playing
the role.
Marjorie Main, already famous
through her superb characterization
of the mother in "Dead End." proves
thoroughly that her finely shaded
portrayal In that picture was no
fluke. For, as the domineering Aunt
Nora In "Romance of the Llmberlost,"
this fine character actress comes vroy
near "stealing" the show, and makes
the onlooker both hate and pity her
with an intensity that speaks vol
umes for her characterization.
There are numerous other well
known faces in the picture who were
unquestionably especially chosen for
their parts. Let It be aald to their
