Wall St. Report
NEW YORK, June 31. (AP)
Stocks hit the rallying road at a
fast pace today, with leading Indus
trials climbing one to three points
generally and a few Isolated Issues
up as much as 10 at the beat.
The list encountered frequent profit-taking
handicaps, In tha wake of
Monday's surprlstugly sharp run-up,
and there was an easing off from top
levels In the final hour, but most
favorites closed well In front.
The apparent break In the long
market drought was attributed to an
assortment of modertely optimistic
factors, the principal one being a
switch in speculative psychology from
the depths of gloom to .hopefulness
that a change for the better Is on
the way for business and Industry.
Short covering by nervous traders
who found stocka hard to buy in the
preceding session helped bolster the
list. Large .purchasing orders from
abroad these having been scarce In
the past several weeks were in evi
dence, and there were signs of In
vestment nibbling from different
sources.
The transfers approximated 1,400.
000 shares, the best turnover since
March.
