leader, will appear before Superior
Judge Ruben Schmidt here next
Friday morning In answer to a
citation to show cause why he
should not be punished for con
tempt of court.
Judge Schmidt announced today
that Bridges was served with the
citation In Oakland after attempts
to serve two previous notices had
failed. The citations were Issued by
the Judicial Independence commit
tee of the Los Angeles Bar asso
ciation which charged Bridges had
attempted to Influence the court
through the filing of a threatening
affidavit during determination of
an AFL and CIO dispute over con
trol of the Ban Pedro Longshore
men's union.
The complaint alleges the affi
davit sought to influence the court
through an Implication that oppo
sition of union men along the Pa
cific coast would be aroused to the
point of a strike if the court
granted an application to appoint
a receiver for the disputed organ

survey reveals.

California today withdrew plana
for a 6136.000 exhibit In New York's
world fair next year, asserting the
Empire state had failed to provide
for a promised display of equal
cost In the 1939 Golden Oat In
ternational exposition here.
The withdrawal was announced
by Florence M. McAullffe and Chas.
H. Purcell, respectively chairman and
executive officer of tbe California
state commission which has control
of the exhibit funds.
California earmarked $138,000 and
placed the sum In escrow for a .
display In the New York exposition
with the understanding the eastern
state would spend a like amount
here, the commissioners declared.
NO ABATEMENT OF
MADRID, June 18. (AP) Insur
gent warplanes continued their re
lentless bombardment of Valencia
and neighboring towns today, mak
ing six attacks In the 34 hours end
ing at noon.
The three heaviest raids were
made during the night under the
waning light of the moon. The
planes swept In repeatedly, trying to
disable the British freighter Mar
coni which was unloading at the
wharf. The Marconi was sprayed by
bomb fragments Thursday.
No casualties were reported.
