The monopoly committee was auth
orized earlier this week by tbe senate
and house.
It was set up in response to Presi
dent Roosevelt's recommendations
that a monopoly investigation be
made with a view to enactment of
new legislation on the aubject.
Mrs. Clara Patterson, head of the
girls' Industrial school here, sprung
a surprise on the board of control
and newsmen wnen she had them
out for a chicken dinner this week.
When the men sat down to eat,
they heard a girls' chorus singing.
Most of them ' thought It was a
radio program, commenting on the
excellence of the music.
Mrs. Patterson then broke the
news that It was her chorus of 28
girls, whom she has been training
secretly for two years. There are
only 91 girls In the school.
