Croup Returns
From Bay City
Mrs. Robert Buhl and Miss Mar
garet Hubbard returned yesterday by
motor from Ban Francisco, Calif.,
where they had spent the past two
weeks.
The two were accompanied back
to Medford by the Buhl's daughter,
Mlii Alicia Buhl, who Juit com
pleted the year at Miss Branson's
school for girls In Ross, Calif. Miss
Ruhl will spend the summer months
bare. . .
Elsie Brown Home
From San Francisco
Mrs. Elsie Brown returned recently
from Ban Francisco where she en-
Joyed a week's vacation.
While In the Bay City. Mrs. Brown
attended the graduation of her
nelce, Miss Joan Andrews, from the
Senior Commerce high school. A
class of 400 received diplomas. An

the clsss dress. Girls wore white cap
and gowns and the boys were In
black cap and gowns. ,
Miss Andrews was soloist at the
ceremonies. Bhe Is very well known
In Medford, having visited her aunt
here a number of times. She will
arrive In this city within the next
few days to spend her vacation with
Mrs. Brown at the latter's home
on North Peach street.

Tuesday and have planned a trip

Mr. Barnum and Mr. Newby are
students of Pacific Dental College
of Oregon In Portland. After a week's
visit In Medford they will return to
the northern city, where they will
do cllnlo work for the remainder of
the summer.

reunion.
Mrs. Mary Lewis of Roeeburg,
mother of Mrs. Oleason and Mrs.
McCann, was reunited with four sis
ters for the first time in SO years,
the youngest of whom Is 57 years
old. The sisters Include Mrs. J. D.
Johnson of Roeeburg. Mrs. O. w.
Whltead of Alamosa, Colo., Mrs.' B.
Tough of Center, Colo., and Mrs.
Minnie Summers of Kansas City.

were Mrs. Joe Mead of Alamosa and
Mrs. Steve West of Silver Peak,
Nov., daughters of Mrs. Whltead

and daughter. An additional guest
was Lester Lewis of Grants Pass,

enjoyed throughout the evening.

the First Baptist church are having
a covered dish dinner Friday eve
ning at 6:30 o'clock at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Kettlewell on
the South Pacific highway. Members

Funeral for Chas. Mclivaln, 73, was
held Tuesday morning at the L. B.
Hal funeral parlors In Grants Pass.
Chas. Mclivaln passed away at the
Grants Pass general hospital Sunday
after an illness of seversl weeks. He
came to Rogue River from Los An
geles about six years ago. He Is
survived by bis widow, Kate Mclivaln,
and a brother Albert, of this city,
and other relatives elsewhere. The
sympathy of the community la ex
tended the family.
Mlas Emma Smith and Paul Davis
of Grants Pass were married In that
city Monday. Emma la the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith of this
city and haa many friends here who
wish these young folks a long happy
married life. They are at home at
Happy Camp, where Mr. Davis has
employment.
A marriage which took place early
In June haa. been announced and the
happy couple are Miss Mary Smith,
daughter of Earl Smith of Leland
and Orvls Reeter, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Reeter of the highway north.
Both are graduates of the Rogue
River school and have lived here
many years. Their many friends ex
tend congratulations.
Richard Scott came over from
North Bend Saturday night, return
Ing Sunday afternoon accompanied
by his family. Mr. and Mrs. Scott
and children were guesta Sunday at
the home of his mother, Mrs. James
Whipple. Mrs. Scott and children
had spent the week visiting Mrs.
Scott's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Dengler and her sister, Mrs. Belle
Hart and family, also at the Whipple
home.
Sam Sandry is spending a few days
at Crescent City.
Live Oak Orange met at the com
munity hall June 8. A fair atten
dance was present and a very inter
esting meeting was held. The H. E.
club met June 9 at me nume of Mrs.
Oua Ruling and plans were complet
ed to hold a social Friday evening,
June 24 at the community hall. No
charges will be made at the door but
the grange ladles will serve pie and
coffee or punch during the evening.
Born Monday. June 13, to Mr. and
Mrs. Perry OUom at the Grants Pass
hospital a baby girl weight 3 lbs. 3
ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith motored
to Vancouver, Wash., Prldsy. They
were accompanied by Mrs. Smith's
father, Mr. Spratt, who haa spent the
winter here. Miss June Spratt, a
sister of Mrs. Smith, came home with
them for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baker and
daughter, Kay, of San Francisco were
dinner guesta Sunday at the Sam
Sandry home. Mr. Baker Is with the
National Broadcasting company.
Mr. and Mrs. Jamea Whipple and
Mrs. Sam Sandry were Grants Pass
shoppers. Monday.
Among the Improvementa noticed
around town is a new coat of paint
on our bridge across the Rogue. Also
on the houses of Mr. and Mra. Lang
worthy and the Sandry house on
Broadway.
At the meeting of the chamber of
commerce June 9, jamea Whipple was
elected president: Richard Harltt.
vice-president: Harry Hill, secretarv
and Earl Miller, treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sno and
daughter of Vancouver, Wash., are
visiting Mr. Snow's parenta, Mr. and
Mra. A. M. Snow.

Dismantling of the house at 98
Portland avenue waa completed to
day by Lee Williams, and no further
human bones were discovered under
the flooring, to be added to the por
tion of a pelvis, upper leg bone and
two arm bones which were found
last Saturday morning.
Chief of Police Clatoua McCredie,
who searched through the wreck
age this morning, said he would
have the ground dug up Immediately
under the spot where they were dis
covered, In an attempt to uncover
more of the bones, if they exist.
However, It is held likely that the i
bones, said to show great age, were
dragged under the floor by a dog.
Discovery of the parte of a human
skeleton waa made by Williams, who
had contracted to dismantle the
house from the city, which 'had
taken It over owing to delinquent
assessment! and unpaid taxes.

PETERSBURG, Ind. (P) Attacked
by several bees, a dog owned by Mr.
and Mrs. Jamea Pride ran for refupe
under a bee hive. He died of thou-
sands of bee Btlngs.
Elmer Canary. 34, a mental case
who escaped from the Roseburg Vet
erans' hospital, June 18, while on
ground parole, was arrested by city
police this momlng after he ha.1
allegedly molested Mlas Margaret
Bateman of 302 Maple street, at Jack
son boulevard and Bartlett street,
while she was walking to work.
Canary, city police said, approach
ed Miss Bateman and grabbed her
arm and started pulling her. She
Jerked loose and screamed, and alter
making her escape, police were noti
fied and the arrest followed.
Authorities In the Veterans' hos
pital will be notified and Canary re.
turned to Roseburg, police said.
According to a police report from
Portland, Canary walked off the hos
pital grounds June 13, just a few
days after being granted ground
parole. Canary told city police he
slept last night In a box-car In Med

Foreman Killed
In Tunnel Cave-in
McMINNVILLE. June 18. (AP)
A. B. Doyle, 65, Portland, retired con
tractor and foreman of a government
drainage tunnel project on the
Salmon River cutoff near Boyer, was
killed yeaterday, 250 feet underground
when a tunnel caved In.
Doyle entered the shaft to free a
workman caught In a smaller caveln,
but was himself struck and burled by
a larger slide. The workman and ;'lve
others escaped.
