ference being held yesterday and to

Jane Snedlcor, the retiring pres
ident, and Mrs. L. O. Gentner are
now attending the state federation
session. Mrs. Ernest Dal ton, state
president for the past two years, is
retiring with honors. Of the S3 clubs
now In the federation. 31 have been
added during her term.
Tuesday afternoon Miss Snedlcor
entertained aJI who have served
with her as officers with a delight
ful luncheon at her home on Geneva
street.
The Junior high school garden
across from the school Is attracting
considerable attention. Mra. Gentner
has been In charge of this work
and was- ably assisted by the school
authorities. The school board fur
nished the necessary facilities for
such a project, and the xlub mem
bers have done all of the planting.

use this week-end. A. P. Butler was
informed today by Thomas O. Watson
from the Roseburg office of the Ump.

Gov. Charles H. Martin Is scheduled
to speak here Sunday afternoon In
dedicating Memorial drive recently
planted under sponsorship of the
auxiliary to, Umpqua post of the
American Legion,
The drive, one mile In length, along
the Garden Valley road. Immediately
north of Roseburg. from the Pacific
highway to the entrance to the
grounds of the TJ. 8. Veterans facility,
contains 110 trees dedicated to veter
ans of the World war and other
conflicts. A number of the trees are
dedicated by relatives or groups to
Individual veterans.
A carved wooden sign, mode by
members of the South Umpqua Falls
CCC camp, will mark the entrance.
Governor Martin's address will be
the feature of the dedicatory program
starting at 3:30 p, m.
FUTILE SEARCH. FOR
REMAINS OF HECKNER
A futile search was made Wednes
day by Deputy Sheriff William Oren-
bemer, and Fred Combest and Thomas
Laughead of Jacksonville for the body
of John Heckner, 62, Jacksonville
resident, who disappeared Tuesday
night. May 17, while .bereaved over
his wife's death.
Buzzards were reported hovering
over the Opp mine and Norrls mine,
near Jacksonville, and the trio made
search of the mlnnlng shafts In
the vicinity.
Wallaos A. Dunnam, 32, Ashland,
who entered a plea of guilty to an
attempt to rob Mrs. Blllle Kennedy,
rooming house landlady, with a pistol
last Monday night, was granted a
suspended sentence today by Circuit
Judge H. D. Norton.
The clemency was granted upon
condition he conduct himself In a
law-abiding manner. The court re
tained tho right to revoke the sua- i ,
pended sentence at any tune.
Dunham admitted, the city police
say, he held up and robbed the land
lady of S3. He was arrested a short
time later, and readily confessed. Ha
