Woman Jailed Mrs. L. C. Dorsch,
60, of Grants Pass, was sentenced by
City Judge Allen D. Curry this after
noon to serve 10 days In Jail on a
charge of drunkenness. She will serve
her time ln the woman's ward of the

arrested Mrs. Dorsch ln the back yard
of a house at 140 North Ivy street.

aged 8. 10 and 44, broke windows

River Valley Navy Mothers club will
hold a regular semi-monthly meeting
at 3:30 Monday afternoon In the
home of Mrs. Blanche Tungate at
Butte Falls. Members are to assemble
at 13:15 at the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce where trans
portation will be provided those not
having cars. Each member Is asked
to bring refreshments. Mrs. Maude
Culbertson. commander, will preside
at the meeting.

dreth attended the graduation exer
cises at Southern Oregon Normal
school In Ashland Wednesday after
noon. Miss Marian Oould, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William Z. Oould
and a member of the graduating class,
received her diploma. Mrs. Chlldreth
and Miss Gould are sisters. After
the graduation ceremonies, the Med
ford women were guests at a ten
given by the girls of the graduating
class.

New Ranger Homer J. Hlxon ar
rived here yesterday to replaoe Jesse
DeWltt as ranger In charge of the
Union Creek district of the Rogue
River national forest. Mr. DeWltt,
now on leave of absence, has applied
for retirement because of ill health
Mr. Hlxon. who waa accompanied here
by hla wife, comes from Troutlake,
Wash., where he has been an assist
ant district ranger on the Columbia
national forest. He la a graduate In
forestry at the University of Wash
ington. He has been employed In
various capacities In the forest ser
vice for the past four years, having
had previous experience with private
lumber companies. Karl L. Janouch,
forest supervisor, spent today with
Mr. Hlxon at the Union Creek ranger
station.
To Seek Mednl Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce announced to
day It would seek a Carnegie medal
for Dudley Klenstra, 18. the Savage
Rapids boy credited with saving the
life of Joyce Clements, 7. after the
boat she was In with her father tum
bled over Savage Rapids dam ln the
Rogue river. The girl, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Clements of Sav
age Rapids, was snatched from the
angry current by young Klenstra as
the stream carried her past the boat
from which he was fishing. Mrs.
Clements la now gathering all the
certified data required by the Car
negie organization before a medal
may be awarded. When the data
have been completed, the chamber
of commerce will apply for the medil.
Twice before the chamber haa ap
plied for such an award.

four women and a young girl, police
Investigators said today.
Thro of the victims were slain
ln Chicago, two In Los Angeles. All
were killed In the same manner
bludgeoned with a brick by a dusky
night prowler who crept Into their
sleeping quarters.

sion solved the following slay'ngs:
Mrs. Florence Johnson, 34, a city
fireman's wife and mother of two
small chlldron, slain In her apartment
early last Friday morning.
Mrs. Florence Thompson Caatle, 34,
comely night club hostess, raped and
slain June 29, 1036, ln the hotel room
she shared with her small son, Jimmy.
Mlsa Anne Kuchta. 10. a student
nurse, raped and killed In hnr room
at the Chicago hospital Aug. 21, 1037.
Mrs, Edna Worden, 43, and her
daughter, Marguerite, 12, stripped
and fatally beaten In their apart
ment ln Los Angeles April 4, 1937.
Nixon was seized near the Johnson
apartment by police responding to a
call from Mrs. Johnson's sister, who
saw the slayer escape. He implicated
another Negro, Earl Hicks, 10, in the
Johnson killing and a third Negro,
Harold Oreen. 20, ln the Words a
deaths.
Re-enact Slaying
Nixon and Hicks re-enacted the
slaying of Mrs. Johnson but accused
eaoh other of wielding the brick that
crushed her head. Yesterday Nixon
showed how he scaled a wall to a
fire escape and made hla way to the
fifth floor hotel room of Mrs. Caatle.
The Investigators said Nixon eon
fessed the Kuchta and Worden slay
lnga last night at a police showup
before 200 spectator. Oreen denied
Nixon's charge that he was lnvolred
In the Worden deaths but police de
tained him for questioning.
Investigators said fingerprint left
by the slayer of Mrs. Castle and the
Wordens matched Nixon'.
