resolution by Representative Dies
(D. Tex.), although criticism and

sentatives. The resolution did not specify the
groups to be Investigated. Dies,
however, spoke of "shocking" In
formation about the naxl movement
In proposing the Investigation, and
others mentioned fascists and com
munists. Representative Maverick (D., Tex.)
opposed the Inquiry as an "entering
wedge to religious persecution." Rep
resentative Knutson (R.. Minn.)
termed it a means of providing "cer
tain congressmen room and board
for the summer."
Dies said he had seen affidavits

PASSES, AGED 47
Edith Ellrabeth Chastatn, 47,
resident of Medford tor the past
week, passed away at the horns of
her daughter, Mrs. Emma FTymlre,
712 West 11th street, late Thursday
cvenlns. She was born at Jackson
ville. Ore, Jan. 12th. 1891. and at
the age of three moved with her
parents to Josephine county. In
1804 she was united In marriage to
William Chastaln.
They have made their home In
Klamath county since 1932. She Is
survived by her husband and the
following children: Emma Frymlre,
of Medford; Ernest. Lucelle, Wanda,
Stanflll Delmar. Leslie, Nadlne and
Beth Chastaln of Klamath Falls and
Eena Helbert of Portland, also seven
grand children.
Funeral services will be conduoted
from the Conger funeral parlors
Saturday at 2:30 p.m., services
being -conducted by the Apo&tollc
Mission. Interment will be made In
the Medford Cemetery. '

PORTLAND, May 27. (AP) The
Rev. Benjamin D- Dagwell, Episcopal
bishop, announced yesterday - a 970,
000 dormitory would be constructed
at St. Helen's Hall, denominational
school for girls.

Magers, a native of Gervats, attended

fireman, waa raped and ' brutally
beaten . to death, early today by
negro who entered her south side
apartment through a window.
Her body was found on the bed.

28, who was sleeping In an adjoin
ing room, said she ssw the negro
scurrying through the hallway and

scratches and his clothing was blood

Dr. P. K. James said Mrs. Johnson
was criminally assaulted and that

The man entered the apartment
through the window of the Johnson
children's bedroom which Is only
few feet away from a railroad em
bankment. The children, Kenneth, ft.
and Florence, 8, were not awakened.
