"There's Always a Woman," the
nev laugh hit opening a four-day
run at the Craterlan theater today,
with Joan Blondell 1 and Melvyn
Douglas In the leading roles and
Mary Astor, Frances Drake and Je
rome Cowan in the supporting cast,
has become known as the "surprlso
comedy of the year."
Given a fast-moving swry of a
private detectlvo who finds his busi
ness going to the dogs, resulting in
his turning over the agency to his
wife, "There's Always a Woman"
turned out to be the sort of film
play that actors and actresses find
a lot of fun In making. And, Just
as it is true In other walks of life,
when there's fun In doing a Job, the
Job Is invariably well done. The
players discovered they had a plot
that allowed them much room for
ad-llbblng and general cuttlng-up.
The Job became a party. The result.
Judging from the reviews from other
cities, has made "There's Always a
Woman" light-hearted, gay entertain
ment, much on the order of "Thin
Man" and "The Awful Truth."
