Hit By Ball F. Edwin Nichols re
sumed his duties this morning as a
rural mall carrier, apparently recov
ered from a knock-out blow by a golf
ball on the Rogue River Valley course
yesterday morning. Mr. Nichols was
hit on the forehead between the eyes
by a ball driven by Lyle P. Wilcox. He
was knocked unconscious for about
15 minutes. Fellow club members took
him to his home at 632 South Holly
street. Mr. Nichols was ' teeing off
from the 18th and Mr. Wilcox was
. making his second shot from the 17th
when the accident occurred. Mr. Wil
cox shouted "fore" and at the warn
ing signal Mr. Nichols straightened
up from a bending posture. The ball
hit him as he rose.

for round-trip gilder flying when
she flew from Darmstadt to Wasser
kuppe and back, a distance of 155
miles. In her motorless plane. She
broke a record established last Fri
day by the German aviator Kraft,
who covered 103 miles.
Miss Reltsch 's trip lasted five and
a half hours, Kraft's six and a half
hours.

V. S. McCIatchy, 80, member of a
widely-known newspaper family In
California, died here yesterday short
ly after calling a physician when he
became 111.
Born In 1867, the year his father
established the Sacramento Bee, Mc
Clatehy became half-owner of this
newspsper and. later, the Fresno
Bee. He was publisher of the Ssc-
rsmento Bee from 1884 until 1923
when he sold rfls Interests to his
late brother, C. K. McCIatchy.
