for the annual Mothers' Day week'

and sons bsnqueted while many other
mothers and daughtere' dinners were

residential halls.

them what goes on In a college and

Mrs. Elizabeth Price, nature advisor
of the National Olrl Scout staff for
the "Big Tree" region will present
"Nature the Olrl Scout Way" to the
entire . .it personnel here May 10
and 11. Mrs. Price, who bears th
title "Petoga" In Olrl Scouting, held
a three-day nature conference here
last year which was considered the
most Inspiring event of the year's
program. All Medford and out-of-town
leaders and scouts have ar
ranged their troop schedules to fea
ture the sessions planned for them.
May 10 at 10 a. m., all troop
leaders and committee members will
meet wlttr Mrs. Price at headquarters
to plan nature adventures and ex
periences In watching "live things
live." The group will accompany Mrs.
Price on a nature walk, following the
instruction at headquarters, weather
permitting.
May 10 at 3:40 p. m., all grade
school scouts and Brownie Scouts will
meet with Mrs. Price on the lawn
at headquarters for two hours of
nature adventuring. Scouts should
bring pencil and notebook.
May 11, following regular council
meeting, Mrs. PtIco will meet with
council members at an Informal
luncheon at headquarters.
At 1:30 p. m., Mrs. Price will con
fer with council members and repre-
een tat Ives of Medford garden clubs
on local nature lore. Preceding her
visit to Medford Mrs. Price took a
four-day trip north of Grants Pass
to explore for new local stories and
experiences to relate to her audiences.
Her talks will make nature adven
turing so enticing that the whole
family will go on those humorous
and thrilling trips with their Olrl
Scouts.
At 7:30 p. m., Mrs. Price will have
her lost session with the Junior and
Senior high school scouts In tn
evening of star stories and star pic
tures in the sky. Mrs. Raymond .
Driver, local nature advisor, has
given classes In making star charts
which will give many of the oldeT
Scouts fine preparation for the eve
ning's findings.
Grants Pass high school scouts
have been Invited to the evening
session as Monday's visit to Grants
Pass will be ' too full to allow an
evening session there.
Scouts should bring sky charts,
flashlight, notebook and .pencil for
the evening session.
Leaders are asked to disregard pre
vious schedules for Mrs. Price's visit
and to follow the plans given above.
MUST GET PERMITS
FOR CLOSED SEASON
On of the major task! facing the
state forestry department in making
preparations for the coming closed
season beginning on May 18 Is the
issuance of permits to tne many
logging, milling and other operation
engaged In work In western Oregon
forests. The fact that the number
Issued last year reached 3300 gives
an idea of the magnitude of this
phase of the proteotlve work.
State Inspector Lloyd H. Morns
emphasizes the. fact that the re
sponsibility for making permit ap
plications rests with the operators
and these must be secured and per
mits Issued prior to May IB, or be
fore any new operations are started
during the closed season. However,
ail possible assistance will be given
by the field men snd office per
sonnel In making out the required
applications for permit at the state
forestry office on Midway road, four
miles north of Medford.
In all cases It will greatly sim
plify the work If operators will con
tact the Inspector within the dis
trict in which they are operating.
In case it la lmpoaslble to get in
touch with the Inspector, the mat
ter can be referred to the district
warden for action. Where operations
are within the protective boundaries
of the national forests, application
should be made through the ranger
In charge of the district or to the
supervisor's office of the national
forest In question. The necessary
blanks are In the hands of all field
men.

son County Public Health association
Is now underway and will continue

county which are not Included la
the annual Community Chest drlv.
These communities were urged
yesterday by Miss Mildred Carlton,
president of the health association,
to complete their membership en
rollment before June 1. Reports will
be mad early In June at tha annual
meeting of the association, w.tlch is
attended by worker from all sec
tions of Jackson county. Cxaot date
of th annual meeting ha not been
announced but It will be early m
June.
