MOTHER'S DAY
DAY DREAMS
and MEMORIES
FUNNY how the passing years play havoc with the
bridge we built to dreamland. ... On this Mother's
Day our thoughts go back to our Indiana boyhood
home on the banks of the Tippecanoe River. Our fish
pole is forgotten as we again lie in 'the shade of the big
Sycamore and what a place it was for day dreams,
We watched the big white thunder clouds sail away and
in fancy rode them to far away adventure land. Over and
over we fought the battles of life and what great victories
we wonl We won them all, of course. All boys do,
Today the vision is reversed. Most
of the Journey through adventure land
has been traveled. The battles were
not so easy. We didn't win them all.
Something held us back, Time had
given us a handicapping burden the
responsibility of life.
Something out of the past is calling
to us and we try to rebuild our bridge.
It isn't so easy now. Youthful' imag
ination that worked such wonders" for ,
the boy no longer serves, so we look ,
for material in our treasure house of -memory
only to meet with failure. The
bridge can 't be rebuilt. Mature mem
ory cannot replace youthful imagina
tion. We can't cast aside that hand
icapping burden the burden of life's
responsibilities our Mother so lovingly
rinrn that a mlrht dream our wiv to
worthwhile manhood. '
That something out of the past is y
not a oall but a yearning a longing
for the carefree days of youth days
when Mother left us fancy free that
we might shape our destiny.
