Home Extension Work
Plays to Feature Day
Homemakers of Jackson county are
Invited to attend the Spring Festival
nd celebration ot SO yeare of home
extension work In Jackson county to
be held In the Medford senior high
school building at I p. m. Saturday.
The extension service In home eco
nomics in Jackson county has been
developed through supervision and
teaching by the county home demon
stration agent with assistance ot the
state home demonstration leader and
specialists. A county extension com
mittee, composed of seven women
representing the county homemakers,
has co-operated with the home dem
onstration agent in promoting the
extension work, and has assisted the
agent In organizing community
groups and In planning the program
of work, this county- committee
meets with the agent regularly once
each month and assists at all county
wide meetings. They have given
most generously of their time and
energy and through their vision and
Integrity have made an Invaluable
contribution to the advancement of
the home economics program.
Miss Alice Hanley of Jacksonville,
who was a member ot the tlrst
county extension committee of Jsck
son county In 1018, has served on
the commltte continuously since that
time as active chairman until 1933
and as honorary chairman since. Miss
wnniev will tell some 01 tne experi
ences of the committee during "the
first ten years' 'of service to ino
homemakers of Jackson county at
the afternoon program at the Spring
Festival.
Other members of the present com
mittee who have assisted In plans
for the festival are Mrs. Rita Myers
of Medford. active chairman; Mrs.
Jennie Hutchinson of Trail, clothing
project chairman; Mrs. Nora Straus
of Sams Valley, home furnishings
project chairman; Mrs .Alice Ricks,
Howard district, secretary of the
county commiteee; Mrs. Pearl Wll
lams of Talent, treasurer and nutri
tion project chairman; Mrs. Maude
Port of Applegate. recreation projec
chairman :and Mrs. Lela Ousterhout
of Eagle Point, parent education pro
ject chairman.
As a climax of the SO-year celebra
tion three one-act plays, representa
tive of the dramatics work carried
on in the county, are to be given on
the evening program by Bellvlew,
Talent and Central Point Granges.
Music for the program will be fur
nished by the Junior Symphony or
chestra under direction of John R
Knight.

tap dancing number. Vocal solos

Pearl 8. Buck wants to abolish
"best-seller" lists which in the
past have Included some of her
own novels-on the ground they
regiment public taste.
"I wish to heaven we could do
away with' the best-seller list en
tirely," she told a luncheon of
booksellers and authors.
"The best-seller list Is not a
thermometer. It is an Iron mold
clamped upon the public mind."
