Music Week Will
Open With Concert
Sunday In Park
The annual celebration of National
Muale Week, when we are given an
opportunity to pay tribute to all
things musical, will be observed the
week stsrtlng Sunday, May 1. Mualc
week la a national Institution and the
musician In our own community of
southern Oregon deem It an honor
and privilege to contribute whole
heartedly to the many fine programs
Which have been arranged. The week
la very fittingly ushered in with a
splendidly arranged program of well
known and much loved sacred concert
numberf In which tha members of
the various church choirs of the city
have combined to give full chorus
numbers, also male choruses, ladles'
triple trios and solos.
This program will be given In the
City park on Sundsy afternoon. May
1, at 4 p. m., weather permitting,
but should the weather be Inclement,
the concert will be given In the First
Presbyterian church across th street
from the perk.
' The church choirs participating are
First Methodist Episcopal, Presby
tsrlan, First Christian, Baptist, Zlon
English Lutheran and Bt. Mark's
Bplscopal. The directors of the cho
ruses, Effle Herbert Kurt. Edna Elfert
and Elsie Carleton Strang; accom
panists, Mabel films and Doris Condlt
Lenta.

on the Jacksonville highway and all

RUNAWAY SEDAN
CATAPULTS INTO
SERVICE STATION

jury when an automobile driven by
Benjamin F. Mulkey, 70, retired Eu
gene attorney, era-shed through the
front wall of a service station In
which ehe was sitting, shortly after
7 o'clock last night.
The machine catapulted over a ce
ment gasoline-pump Island, ripped
through the front wall of the build
ing and came to a stop entirely with
in the station, and only five feet
from Mrs. Rush. Although not phy
sically Injured, Mrs. Rush suffered
nervous shock and was under the
care of a physician last night.
The accident occurred at the C. M.
Rush service station at 1330 Siskiyou
boulevard In Ashland. The entire
front of the building was demolished.

ruined, and Interior fixtures of the
station damaged.
Mr. and Mrs. Mulkey were unin
jured, and their Dodge sedan received
only slight damage.
According to Investigating state
police officers, the Mulkey car, trav
lng south, apparently went out of
control when It encountered ruts
alongside the highway, and before the
driver could straighten It out It
crashed Into the station. Mr. Mulkey
was not held.
Mrs. Rush, who was alone In the
station at the time of the accident,
was taken out through a rear window.
The car completely blocked the door
way.

nual sermon. A one-dsy meeting will
be held In Brookings In September.

at which elections were held. Then a

by the Rev. F. A. Starring, Portland,
state convention aecretary.
"Baptist Doctrines and Living" was
the subject of sn afternoon sermon
given by the Rev. E. J. Dodson. Miss
Mary Ayres, state missionary of Sel
ma. gave an address on "The Out
look of the Rural Church." Special
music wss provided by Mrs. Don V.
Piatt, Medford. Dr. F. E. Starring
conducted a round-table discussion.
