receipt to the government,"
The committee earlier had accepted

The calyx spray on Bartlett, Cornice
and Base pears should be started ai
soon as most of the petals have fallen
and should be completed within a
week or ten days after petal fall,
according to L. O. Centner, ento
mologist of the Southern Oregon Ex
periment station, and C. B. Cordv,
assistant county agent.
Object of the spray Is to fill the
calyx cup with poleon before It closes
so that worms attempting to enter
the calyx later in the Mason will be
killed. As the Anjou and Nells hare
open calyi cups throughout the aum
mer, this calyx spray la not neces
sary on these varieties, unless green
fruit worm or taw-fly larvae havs
been a problem. The Bom eaJyx re
mains partially open so If worms wen
not a problem last year, this spray
may be omitted on Boao.
Use S pounds arsenate of lead and
V4 to 1-8 pound of spreader per 100
gallons. Apply very carefully to aa
to fill the blossom ends of all fruits
If scab waa a problem laat year,
add 0 pounds wettable sulfur per
100 gallons of mixture.
