leading pitcher of the Northern Cali
fornia circuit last season and the guy
who stood Southern Oregon league
batters on their collective heads for
two yeara, will probubly open on the
mound for the colorful Red Sox, with
Hogan, Turpln and Sqopo in reserve.

per or Ray Erlckson to the rubber.

land but has since been returned to
Medford.
Tho appearance of the Red Sox
will be tholr first In Medford since
loafi. when thev ran rouahshod over
all Southern Oregon league teams to
win the pennant with ease. The fol
lowing year, 1036. with Medford out
of the league, Klamath Falls again
howed Its heels to the rest of the
pack, defeating Olendale In the play
off game, 1 to 0. Last season, looking
for new fields to conquer, the Red
Sox pulled out of the 8. O. L. and
ntered the Northern California loop,
and alter a blazing battle down the
stretch, dropped the third and de
ciding game of a Bhaugnessy playoff
aeries to Mount Shasta City. The Sox
are entered In the Northern California
wheel again this year, and are con
sidered odds-on favorites to grab the
title.
Ill on Roster
Manager Oakea will bring 19 players
to Medford. moat of them members
of tho Red Sox for the past three
Years. Besides the four pitchers al
ready named, the Sox roster Includes
t ho catchers, JTyer, Pape and Pastega;
lnflclders, Bernle Bernadou, Brooks,
Sandstrom, Herschberger, Lloyd, Moore
and Ouracha; and outfielders, Ham
merlckson, Molotore, Bergland, Swlta-
ler and Shlpman. Many of these
players were members of the Klamath
Falls softball team which defeated
Timber products here last season In
the district championship battle.
The Craters have been working out
daily this week, and Manager Rlckert
announces his team In excellent con
dition for what will undoubtedly
prove one of the best ball games of
the year. The club will be strength
ened considerably, with Cliff 'Chief
McLean back on the plate. Remainder
of the lineup will probably be Lowell
Drown on first, Manager Rlckert at
second, Dick Lewis at short, Arba Ager
at third, Rum Acheson or Oeore
Harrington In lcftfleld. Dick Sakralda
In center, and Paul "Hoosler" Hoffard

Bradman swung and missed and

Today the youngster is the Em

Bugs" Moran, prohibition era gang
ster chief, and five other persons
were seized here today by police in
vestigating a nation-wide plot to pass
counterfeit travelers' checks.
Three Chicago men accused of be
ing members of a counterfeit ring
were arrested at Pittsburgh last
night.
Police of the state's attorney's of
fice who mode the arrests here ex
pressed the opinion as much ls
$1,000,000 in counterfeit American
Express company checks had been
printed for distribution In principal
cities of the nation.
Moran, seven of whose henchmen
were machine-gunned to death in
the St. Valentine's day massacre, was
