IN PARKED AUTO
A coroner's Jury last night ab
solved Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Ross,
Crescent City, Calif., of any culpa
bility in tha death of their 8 -week-old
daughter. Marl lee Gall Ross, who
succumbed early Sunday morning in
the parents' car which had been
parked at a Medford night resort.
After ah autopsy Dr. William W. P
Holt signed a certificate attributing
the Infant's death to an enlarged
thymus. "Infant died suddenly." the
death certificate sale Or. R, W
Stearna concurred In the autopsy
findings and so testified at the In
quest held last night In the Perl
chapel.
After hearing testimony, the coro
ner's Jury found that the Infant met
death fTom the "effects of an en
larged thymus." No one was guilty
of a crime by reason of her death,
the Jurya verdict said.
The parents were given possession
of the baby's body last night to
return to Crescent City for funeral
services.
The 24-year-old father of the baby
testified thet he looked t the In
fant every 15 or 20 minutes as she
slept in the car while he and his
wife and another couple attended
a night spot. They left the resort
about 1:10 Sunday morning and
shortly thereafter when Mra. Ross
lifted the baby to feed her she
scrcamefl that the tot was dead, Ross
testified. He then told of rushing
the 'baby to Community hospital
where resusltatlon efforts failed.
Other witnesses gave similar testi
mony. Mrs. Ross. 18-yeor-old mother
of the child, had a difficult time
suppressing sobs as she testified.
Later when her mother. Mrs. H. T.
Prince of Phoenix, was testifying.
Mrs. Ross wept. Marl lee was the first
baby born to Mr. and Mrs. Ross.
The inquest was conducted by
Coroner Frank Perl and George W.
Nellson, deputy district attorney. The
Jury was composed of F. Wilson Walt
Herbert Guenther, M. C. Wright. H.
N. Butler, Kenneth N. Anthony and
Russell Acheson.

the Ashland playhouse.
A notable cast was selected with
Infinite care for the portrayal of the
story which depicts the romance,
grandeur and tragedy of Queen Eliza
beth's time. Studio statistics show
that Flora Robson, portraying Queen
Elizabeth, spent 18 months delving
Into Eli7abethan lore before she un
dertook the role.
Critics have said that Miss Robson
gives a brilliant portrayal of the
monarch whose energy and seal for
her country's welfare made her reign
Immortal.

'Hit It TJp," the sensational min-
strel-revlew produced by the John
B. Rogers company under the aua
plces of the Medford Lions club, will
open a two-night engagement at the ,
senior high school auditorium to
night at 8:15. With 350 local mus
ical and dramatic artlsta in the
cast, and the Junior symphony or.
chestra. the Medford Gleemen, and
the Medford and Yreka, Cal., ac
cordion bands scheduled for con
certs, the presentation Is expected
to reach an all-time high in mus
ical and hilarious entertainment.
The show will be repeated Wednes
day evening at the same time.
Proceeds of the rollicking review
will be used to swell the Lions club
blind fund and for the benefit of
the Junior symphony orchestra, and
the Gleemen.
Although the show. Itself, starts
at 8:15. there will be a concert at
8:00 o'clock by the Junior symphony
orchestra, directed by Prof. John R.
Knight. The orchestra will also pre
sent a 10-mlnute Intermission con
cert between part one and two of
the review.
Two accordion bands, the Med
ford and Yreka, Cal., organizations,
both directed by Mrs. Harry Pren
tice, will present numbers during
the show, and the Gleemen. under
direction of Sebastian Apollo, will
appear as hit 11 on, the program.
, The show has been In rehearsal
for two weeks and Director Vernon
L. Price of the Rogers company
states the entire cast is ready to
turn in an excellent performance.
The program ranges from short com
edy skits to a real, old-fashioned
minstrel show with end men and
everything. There are tuneful song
numbers galore, spectacular dances
by pupils of Eve Benson's dancing
studio, and specialty numbers by all
members of the cast.
