MEDICAL SOCIETY
OFFERS HELP FOR
Jacluon County Medical society
was today pledged to cooperate with
the state board of health in observ
ing 'Child Health Day" May X.
The society voted Its assistance at
Its meeting Wednesday-' night In
Valentine's cafe. The question of
child health was brought out In a
talk by Dr. John Able, state assist
ant director of the children's pro
gram. Dr. Able described the state
program for the care of crippled
children. Be told of plans to hold a
clinic here for crippled children some
time In May with Dr. Richard Dllle
hunt, Portland specialist. In charge.
Such ollnlcs have been held here
periodically for the past ten years.
The society voted to hold a sym
posium on the child problem at Its
next meeting on April 27.
Presenting the paper of the eve
ning. Dr. P. G. Thayer' discussed In
fections of the eye. He said that the
eye has Inherent resistance to infec
tions and that, unless there is a re
duced body resistance, errors of re
fraction or mechanical injury td Its
delicate covering, most germs will
not cause Infection. He added, how
ever, that some virulent germs can
produce Infection without other
cause.
Through a new method of obtain
ing and straining the germs re
sponsible for Infection. It la now
possible to direct treatment specifi
cally for the type of germ present.
Dr. Thayer said.
Dr. O. I. Drummond was host. At
the next meeting Dr. Edwin R.
Durno will be host.
GRANT LANDS CLOSED
FOR RECLASSIFICATION
ROBEBURO, Ore.. April 15. (!Pt

PENDLETON, April 15. (AP) A
circuit court Jury acquitted Burton
Moore of Wasco yesterday of a charge
of setting fire to several cabins at a
Stanfleld auto camp.
EASTER PLAY AT
"The Half of My Goods," an Easter
play by Ralph P. Claggeet, will be
presented by a cast of seven at the
Salvation Army Sunday at 8:00 p. m.
The play concerns the life of
Zacchaeus. Jewish collector of Roman
revenues. He Is represented to have
married a wife out of the Hellenistic
world and to have been the father
of a charming little daughter and
a son not altogether to his liking.
Though he desires to bean honest
man, he la urged on to llllgltlmate
gain by the socially ambitious Greek
whom he has married. His son.
Thaddaeus, becomes Involved as a
member of the robber band of Bar
rabbas and Is guilty of the murder
of a merchant prince. Eventually
Thaddaeus Is crucified, at the same
time as Jesus, and Is represented to
have been the young thief who pray
ed, "Lord, remember me when thou
comest into thy kingdom. He re
ceives the assurance, "Today thou
shalt be with me In paradise." j
The ' news of Jesus' resurrection
brings Zacchaeus and his wife Pat
ricia, the assurance that because
Jesus lives, their son Thaddaeus lives
also.
Special scenery, cost urns and
lighting have been arranged and

powerful Easter drama In the Sal
vation Army hall at 236 North B art

Lieut. Harold Woods waa elected
president of the Rogue valley chapter
of the Reserve Officers association at
the annual meeting In the Mod ford
armory last night. He succoeds Qapt.
Terry H. Holberton.
Capt. William H. Driscoll waa elect
vice president and Lieut. Phllo D.
Smith, secretary. Lieuts. Herold
Woods and Ernest J. Brugger were
chosen delegates to the annual state
convention In Eugene May 31.
MaJ. Carlton E. Spencer, Eugene.
Oregon department president, was
Instructor for the evening. He gave
a lecture on the responsibilities of
reserve officers In relation to national
defense.
Also attending the meeting were
Col. D. J. Coman of Klamath Palls j
and MaJ. Charles S. Pettee, regular
army officer stationed at Eugene as
an Instructor. 1

Gold Hill Grange, Its regular meet
lng April 7. was enjoyably surprised
when a delegation from Sams Valley
appeared and put on the lecturer'
program, which consisted of:
Music by three-piece orchestra
with many oM-ttme and modern se
lections. Skit, "Dr. Tough" Albert Straua
doctor; Jerome Fitzgerald, patient.
Reading Bill Duggan.
Trio.
Reading Mrs. Kinne.
Mock Wedding.
The program was In charge of Mrs.
Klnne, lecturer of the Sams Valley
Grange.
Twenty. five vlsltora were present,
among whom were Master Wesley Mo
Donough of Sams Valley Grange, also
three past masters of that Grange
Wm. Autenrelth. Jerome Fitzgerald
and Albert Straus.
Mr. Beesley, Boy Scout executive
of Medford, talked on the work of
the Boy Scouts and their leaders.
The quarterly report revealed 98
paid-up members, nine new members
during the past quarter and 64 visit-
tors from other Granges during that
time.
'An important part of the meeting
was the election of state offtcera.
A sales slip contest Is being held
with Mrs. W. G. Howes and Mrs. C.
D. Winn as captains.
Refreshments were served after the
meeting.
