complished without a constitutional
amendment. He said the constitu
tion permitted taxation of income
from whatever source derived with
out exception.

Mr. Roosevelt added that there was
a school or legal thought that held
exemptions of existing bond Issues
could be removed without an amend

from the treasury an estimate of how
much money could be raised by the

securities commission simplify Its
regulations, Mr. Roosevelt said there
had been complaints that applica
tions for small capital issues Involv
ed too much paper work and the
commission was now working to re
duce that.

Three Jacksonville youths, all
about 17 years of age, held Wednes
day for questioning In the robbery
of the pioneer museum at Jackson
ville last Monday, were freed yester
day by the sheriff's office. The trio
threw no light on the vandalism.
A close check of the museum
showed nothing missing save a "tin"
violin, a silver key-wind watch and
some Confederate coins. Things In
the museum were turned helter-
skelter by the marauders.
The sheriff's office reported that
for several weeks the old court house
at Jacksonville, used as a Orange

DEPUTY SHERIFF SLAIN

killed during a four-hour gun duel
last night at a ranch near RycRate
and lee Simpson, the rancher escaped
but surrendered today nt Lewlston.

TAKEN BY DEATH
Charles E. Tull, 66, former resident
of Med ford, passed away in Portland,
Ore., Wednesday morning after a
short Illness. Mr. Tull was born
near Fort Jones, Calif., April 30. 1873.
He lived in Medford for almost 40
years and will be remembered by
many friends. Since 1023. he bad
made hia home In Portland.
