Roosevelt's fireside chat last night
virtually assured Oregon that It
would receive Its full $3,000,000 ahare
of federal funds for road construction

but only $138,000,000 has been appro
priated. The president said he would
recommend to congress that It ap
propriate the additional $100,000,000.
Senator A. E. Reames (D-Ore) tele
graphed the Salem chamber of com
merce today that the house appro
priations committee promised to re
store the full quota of federal road
funds for both the 1938 and 1939
fiscal years, and that the president
toad released funds for federal forest
roads and trails and federal land
roads.
The president's statement also re
moved the threat to cut the appro
priations In half for the 1938 fiscal
year.
