where she will appear with an eight
harp ensemble, directed by Dorla
Helen Calkins, harp Instructor and
faculty member of the University of
Oregon achool of music
The group will appear In a theater
concert and are also being presented
at Music Hall on the campus Tues
day evening for an entire concert of
ensemble music. Harpist from Ta-
ooma, Salem, Klamath palls, Kugene
and Medford will participate In the
ensemble which will be an outatand'
Ing event In Eugone musical clrclea.
Because of the difficulty In assem
bling a large group of harps, harp
ensembles have been rare In the Pa-
clflo northwest. The beauty of tone
of the combined Instruments and the
beauty In appearance make the en
semble very much worth the effort.
A number of southern Oregon
music enthusiasts are attending the
concert.

leaving Monday for a week's trip to
Portland. While In the northern city,
Mr. Blgelow will visit Mr. B. L. King,
superintendent of the Southern Pa
cific Railroad company. The two men
re friends of long standing and
have not seen each other for 15 years.

in Modesto Church

church congregation In Modesto,

Rev. Balrd was pastor of M,e local
First Christian church In Medford
for some time before moving to
Modesto.
Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Bolrd were
surprised by over 200 members of the
First Christian church congregation
and friends at the clone of the eve
ning service on Sunday.
The affair was In celebration of
the U-Urd'a twenty-fifth wedding an
niversary. Following an announce
ment by Rev. J. M. Morris that there
would be a wedding and asking that
the congregation remain seated. Mrs.
Adrian Taylor plnyix) the wedding
march and Mrs. Bnlrd was escorted
down the aisle to the arch by her
son, John Bfllrd. A surprised bride
groom of twenty-five years ago also
waa escorted to the altar by a young
er son. William. A wedding service
was read by Rev. Morris. A silver box
containing twenty-five silver dollars
waa presented to the pastor and his
wife from the congregation.

Former Medford
People Leave on
European Tour
Many friends of Mr. and' Kirs. Alex
ander P. Outhrle of Ban Francisco,
will be Interested to learn of their
departure for an extended tour of
Europe. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie left
by plane from Ban Francisco Thurs
day for New York where they will
embark on the liner Rex.
After visiting Mr. Guthrie's moth
er, Mrs. Alexander Guthrie, and
brother, In London. England, the
couple will make a leisurely tour of
Italy, Switzerland, France and other
parts of the continent.
Mrs. Guthrie will be remembered
In this city as Jane Sollnsky and for
merly made her home here. Mr.
Guthrie lived in Medford a number
of years ago with his family and then
moved to London with them. Later
he returned to San Francisco where
his marriage to Miss Sollrwky was
an October event In the Bay city.

To Meet Saturday
Zulelma Temple, Daughters of the
Nile, are holding a meeting Sat
urday, December II, In the Masonic
Temple at Ashland. Although this
la a regular meeting It Is of special
Importance because of the semi-annual
fall ceremonial which will
take place.
Luncheon will be served at the
temple at 12 :30 o'clock and the
ceremonial will follow at 2:00o'clock.

Thursday morning State Regent
Mrs. B. G. Harding spoke before
the Senior high school assembly
concerning the D.A.R. good citizen
ship pilgrimage. All senior girls in
all four year high schools In tne
state are eligible and the senior
with the highest rating In the state
will be given a free trip to Wash
ington, D. C, next April, Three
girls are selected by the faculty in
each school. The student body then
votes on the three names. A state
Judging committee then decides
which senior In the state Is en
titled to this trip. Four points are
considered: (1) Dependability, punc
tuality, truthfulness, loyalty and
self control ; (2) Service, coopera
tion, courtesy and respect for proper
authority and rights of others; (3)
Leadership, imagination, command
of the good-will and respect ol
others and the best to lead; 4)
Patriotism, Interest and pride in
family, school, community and na
tion and willingness to sacrifice Bell
for them. A similar prize la ottered
in each of the 48 states. Mrs. Arm
strong, regent of Crater Lake chap
ter, accompanied Mrs. Harding on
Thursday morning.
The February number of the
D.A.R. magazine will be a special
Oregon edition and Mrs. Harding is
now selecting material from all
chapters In the state.

At the club meeting Thursday eve
ning, Mr. Hary Young was the guest
speaker and gave many interesting
suggestions for the use of electricity
In lighting gardens. Reflectors and
concealed lights, properly placed will
enhance a garden and unexpected
effects may be obtained. Mr. Young
also discussed the use of lights at
Christmas time as a means ut deco
rating private homes. To prevent
short circuits, weather-proof cord and
sockets should be used.
Mrs. Howard Bawden was appoint
ed chairman of the Christmas light
ing committee and reported the clas
sifications to be used this year for
Judging private home decorations.
