ceived word today that Earl Sloan.

county Jail last summer for steeling

To Donate Toys All members of
the Eagles lodge snd auxiliary were
reminded today by Fred Powell, aerie
president, that tonight's meeting has
been set aside to receive old and dis
carded toys. The plsythtngs will be
sent to fire headquarters where they
will be rebuilt and repainted by the
firemen for distribution among poor
children as Christmas presents. Any
kind of old toy Is scceptable, .Mr.
Powell pointed out. He recalled that
last year lodge and auxiliary members
brought ao many discarded play
things that a truck was required to
transport them to fire headquarters.
He wants the lodge to do even better
thla year, he said. The meeting will
convene at 8 o'clock In the armory.
Against Forest Chanse Senator
Frederick Stelwer Is opposed . to any
organizational change In the United
Statea forest service, he Indicated In
a telegram to the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce today. The
chamber's board of directors recently
voted unanimously to oppose the
change whereby the forest service,
under a pending department reor
ganisation bill, would be removed
from the department of agriculture
and placed under a new department
of conservation. The board directed
that lettera be sent to the Oregon
congressional delegation, asking their
opposition to any forest service or
ganization alteration. In his tele
gram Senator stelwer said he would
give careful consideration to mo re
organization bill when It reached the
senate and added he was opposed to
It In Its present form.

At a mass meeting called as an
outgrowth of the slaying of Cor
coran, George Cole, regional director
of the Committee for Industrial Or
ganization, read an affidavit signed
by Robert John Bell, former Minne
apolis union man, detailing the al
leged plot. Bell la now reported to be
on the west coast.
Bell's affidavit ssld he was colled
Into the office of a Minneapolis AFL
worker and given 81.000 with Instruc
tions to go to Seattle, but did not
know why he was being sent.
Arriving there, he received 10 a
day for expenses, the affidavit said,
and after several days was sent to
Portland, where another AFL leader
gave him Instructions.
The Instructions. Bell said In his
affidavit, were to "get" a CIO leader
named Harry Bridges. Bell said the
labor leader showed him a revolver
which the Minneapolis man was to
use to kill the opposition union man.
Saying he "loved freedom, and was
going to stay free," Bell refused to
have anything to ao witn me jentmc
he declared. Later he Informed CIO
workers of the proposal. Jie said, and
warned them to have Bridges guard
ed. The death orders, his aftldavlt
said, came from a leader In a team
ster's union.
