bar at Commerce on keeping the
forest service Intact and on blister
rust control. It was shown by tele
gram received by the chamber of
commerce yesterday in response to
letters sent the Oregon congressional
delegation.
"I am In accord with your crltl
darn of the reorganization bill and
shall oppose it." Senator McNary
wired regarding the board'! vote on
the forest service. Under the pro
posed departmental reorganization
plan, the forest service would be re
moved from the department of agrl
culture and placed under a new de
partment of conservation.
The chamber board voted against
any change In the set-up of the for
eat service, maintaining It has a long
record of efficient and constructive
public service that ahould be con
tlnued.
The chamber board ei&o went on
record as favoring appropriations to
stomp out blister rust which, the dl
rectors were told by experts! threat
ens to destroy the sugar and white
pine of southern Oregon. In his
telegram said McNary would teke the
the matter up Immediately with the
forest service and urge a larger ap
priatlon for next year.
Another teliegram from the senator
showed he had been working on
.behalf of Med ford In Its effort to
procre a WPA allotment of 913.000
to complete widening of the main
runway of the municipal airport.
Thia matter also had been taken up
with him by the chamber of com
merce.

LADY SURRENDERS
Mae Blgelow Rankin died In a local
hospital last Wednesday from a stroke
of apoplexy alter a year s IllnMa. She
was in her 66th year.
Mrs. Rankin wa the widow of New
ton T. Rankin who died on April 14.

South Ivy street, Mr. and Mra. Rankin I
having come to Medford U years ago.
Mrs. Rankin waa born In Wiscon
sin on March 31, 187a. She was a
member of Mistletoe camp. Royal
Neighbors of America, having tram-

She la survived by a suter, Mrs Alice '
Woodward of Mason City, Iowa and i
several nieces and nephews.

pital Friday noon after an Illness of
j six weeks. She was 77 years old.
I Mr. Zundel was born In Brtgham
'city. Utah, on December 8. U60. She
: had been a resident of Medford and
Jaekson county for the past 21 ars

i Zundel, who died on January 3. 1920
She was a member of the Church of
Latter Day Saints.
Mrs. Zunde.5 is survived by six

Medford. Harold and OoMen of Lake
Creek, and Earl of Mar Vista. Calif.

Robber were busy again sometime
Friday night or early Saturday morn
Ing by breaking Into the office of
the General Petroleoum Corp. plant
at 938 South Central avenue and
stealing 810 In cash, city police re
ported yesterday.
The money was in the petty cash
drawer which waa pried open with a
screwdriver, city pol'ce were told.
Nothing else was missing, although
several drawers n a desk had been
ransacked.
Entrance to the yard waa effected
through an unlocked back gate facing
the Southern Pacific railroad tracks,
city police said. The burglars then
broke a window on the north side of
the building and opened It from the
Inside, police stated.
The robbery was discovered by
Douglas Kapsa. oil truck driver, when
he reported for work yesterday morning.

said .today the Indicated production
of large potatoes dropped nearly
7.0000.000 biuhels In October as the
result of unfavorable growing con
ditions. The total American crop was esti
mated at 393.000,000 bushels com
pared with 830.000,000 last year and :
373.000.000 for the 1938-33 five-year
average. The late crop was estimated
at 317.000.000 bushels.
The bureau reported a slight ad
vance In prices of all varieties except
russet Burbanks.
It also stated fall and winter cut 1
crop prices may be slightly higher (
than last winter because of reduc- j
tions In planting and market sup- j
piles.

Pacific passenger train west of El

Dr. C. A. Miller, county physician,
said today that Harry Dwyer, 32. may
lce the sight of his left eye. and it
might be necessary to remove it.
Henry Lorenn, 37, suffered from an
apparently semi -paralyzed right arm.
Dr. Miller said the nerves bad been
Injured, possibly because Lorenr was
trussed too tightly by Irate trainmen
and passengers.
