No Mall Tomorrow Central post
office and sub -station will be closed
tomorrow for Thanksgiving and there
will be no mall delivery. Outgoing
mall left at the postofflce, however,
will be classified and dispatched as
usual.
Mules Transferred Four mule
used In the Applegate district of the
Rogue River national - forest were
transferred by truck today to the
Pelican guard station corral on Klam
ath lake for winter feeding. The
transfer was made by Lee Port, dis
trict ranger. Twenty-five mules will
be fed at Pelican this winter.
Seeding Ranee Paul Brlnson, Jun
ior forester of the Rogue River na
tional forest, spent today In super
vising the sowing of grass on several
range plots In the Applegate district.
The planting was an experiment to
determine how successful seeding of
the range can be. forest headquarters
aald. Providing adequate range land
under scientific management Is one
of the public services of the United
States forest servrce, It was pointed
out.

Predicts Record C. h. MacDonald,
commander of Medford post of the
American Legion, returned yesterday
from a short business trip to Klam
ath Falls. He said reports received at
Klamath Falls showed a renewed In
terest In the American Legion by ex
service men throughout the state,
and he predicted a record for mem
bership In the department of Oregon
for 1938.
Going to Eugene Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph Burgess, with their small son
were to leave today for Eugene to
spend the Thankfgivlng holiday with
their daughter, Miss Dorothy Burgess
who la a junior at the University of
Oregon. The family will hold a re
union with Mrs. Art Burgess, mother
of Mr. Burgess, and his grandmother.
Mrs. James Oedler, four generations
being represented.
Bankers Meet Regular monthly
meeting of the Southern Oregon
Bankers association was held In the
Llthla hotel In Ashland last night,
with about 30 bankers from Ashland.
Medford and Grants Pass attending.
Dwlght L. Houghton, president of
the association, presided. Principal
speakers were Earl Newbry. who spoke
on the production of pears, and Ray
mond R. Reter, who told of the mar
keting of pears. Following the meet
ing, bankers were the guests .of Wal
ter Leverette at his new Varsity thea
ter In Ashland.
Tedrows Here Mr. and Mrs. Mau
rice Tedrow, former Medford residents,
arrived here yesterday from crescent
City, Cal., where they had spent a
few days after Mrs. Tedrows recent
visit with friends In the Rogue val
ley. They left this morning for Ash
land where they were to spend the
day with friends. They planned to
leave here tomorrow morning for
Corvallla to spend Thanksgiving with
Mr. Tedrow's mother. Mr. and Mrs.
Tedrow now reside in Tonasket.
Wash., where Mr. Tedrow Is a district
ranger of the Corvallis national for
est. He formerly was district ranger
of the Rogue River national forest at
Butte Falls.

it was announced today. Mr. Ayde
lott will assist Karl L. Janouch. sup

street. The store will carry a com

terials, metal mouldings, feature
strips. Venetian blinds and window
shades. The firm also offers Installa

Byron G. Works plead guilty to
driving an auto while under the In-,
fluence . of Intoxicating liquor and
was sentenced this morning to serve
60 days in the county Jail and pay
a fine of 8100, by Justice of the
Peace William R. Coleman. The rec
ords revealed It was Works second
conviction on the same offense and
his driver's license hsd not oeen re
stored. Testimony Introduced showed
Works had been arrested on the Pa
cific highway in Talent November
22 when erratic driving was noted
by a state trooper. Works was taken
to Ashland and placed in the city
Jail there. Later be developed ab
dominal pains and a doctor was
called who advised Works be taken
to a hospital. Worka fled when op
portunity offered and was re-captured
later walking north on the
railroad track.
F. M. Smith, charged with obtain
ing money under false pretenses,
waived a preliminary hearing and
was ordered held to the grand Jury
under $1000 bond. Smith allegedly
passed e $10 spurious check upon
Victor L. Marshall who signed the
complaint. Smith was arrested In
Portland and returned here.
