HONORED GUESTS
AT BEAN SUPPER
i Forty members of the Med ford
Junior high school football squad
were honored last night at the Med
ford armory by a delicious Dean feed,
sponsored by enthusiastic local fans
who followed the team through a
successful season J ust completed .
Following the banquet, players were
the guests of Made Li Hard at the
wrestling matches.
Principal speakers were Fire Chief
Roy Elliott, ijead Coach George Har
rington, Assistant Coach Loye Mar
shall and James Mulltns, principal
of Med ford Junior high. All com
mended the entire squad for their
excellent performances during the
year substitutes as well as regulars,
and painted a picture of the future
when many of this year's Junior high
aggregation would be carrying the
colors of the high school Black Tor
nado Into action.
Coach Harrington paid special tri
bute to those youngsters who, not
members of the first team and seeing
little action, nevertheless did their
duty and helped Immeasurably by
turning out the entire season and

Mrs. L. B. Thurman. Mrs. Ethel
Plorey. Snlder's dairy. Western States
grocery, Ralph Smith and Mr. and
Mrs. o. V. Hayes.

Linford Dixon and Stanley Cole,
transient carnival workers, sentenced
to. state prison for terms of two years
each for the admitted robbery ox
autoa parked at the Bend-Medford
football game. October 39, were taken
to Salem yesterday by Sheriff Byd
I. Brown.
An order of release for Marvin
Mercer and Don Lackey, companions
of Dixon and Cole, was filed yester
day. Mercer and Lackey were not
present at the time of the thefts,
and were cleared by statements of
Cole and Dixon.

ten pounds and six ounces, at Sacred
Heart hospital this morning, Tuesday,
November 23.

ounces. Both mother and child are
reported doing nicely.

A petition for financial reorganiza
tion, filed In federal district court
by the Lakevlew Pine Lumber corn-
pan, lists liabilities of approximately
$130,000 and assets of $320,000. Time
was requested to work out plans to
meet obligations.

DEFENSE HEARD IN
The defense In the damage suit
of B. P, Burkhardt against Jay P..
Williams, Nettle C. Williams, Bert
Williams, Opal Nelson and Lois Fret-
well, opened this morning In circuit
court. Burkhardt alleges the defend
ants entered Into a conspiracy to
have him committed to the Insane
asylum, by the filing of an Insanity
complaint. Burkhardt seeks $5000
punitive, and $5100 general damages
from each of the defendants. The In
sanity complaint was dismissed.
Defense witnesses on the stand
declared they signed the Insanity
complaint because of the alleged
threats and actions of the plaintiff,
and were actuated by no malice.
They alleged Burkhardt once de
clared the then district attorney of
Jackson county, "should be hung
with barbwlre around his neck, and
shot with a 30-30 rifle."
The defense Is represented by At
torney Charles W. Reamrs, and the
plaintiff by Attorney Qus Newbury.

The case Is expected to go to the
Jury early tomorrow.

Sunday school auxiliary of the
Church of the Nazarene over a period
of six weeks hos raised $1100 for
the new church building. They set
out to raise $600 and enroll 50 new
members In the Sunday school They
were not able to make the quota In
membership by a margin of about
half, but nearly doubled the quota
In money for the new church.
The Church of the Nazal ene has
been able thus far to keep to Its
"pay as you go plan." though their
building enterprise a challenging
one. They have an Investment now
of about $10,000 in the project Con
struction work Is moving forward
with the hope of completion by May
first of 1938.
Mch activity is now being centered
in the Interest of the special evan
gelistic meeting, which will begin
next Sunday morning with Rev. Lon
R. Woodrum of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Rev. Woodrum Is said to be one of
the most genial and interesting
speakers on the pulpit platform today.
Rev. Woodrum will De with the
church over a period of three Sun
days, speaking every night excepting
Saturday at 7:30.

Harry R. Williams, of Medford,
charged with operating an auto with
out lights was assessed $10 and
coats in justice court yesterday
Testimony showed Williams was stop
ped while driving with one light
on'the Jacksonville hlgTiway by state
police. The auto was parked, and
an hour later, it was said, Williams
was discovered driving with noughts.
Peter H. Gourley of Douglas coun
ty, engaged In cutting Christmas
trees In the Butte Falls district,
charged with Illegal possession of
venison, plead guilty and paid a
fine of $25 and costs.
Oourley claimed he ran over the
deer accidentally and killed it. He
then chopped off its head with an
ax and brought the meat to camp,
where It was found.
Oscar Wolgamott of O rants Pass,
charged with failure to stop at a
highway Intersection was assessed $1
snd costs. George E. Merrltt, charged
with operating an auto on the Pa
cific Highway without a muffler was
fined $2.50 and costs.

Junior high school students, visited
several schools of the county today
telling the story of the Christmas
health seal and the campaign being
waged against tuberculosis. The stu
dents were trained by Donald Dar-
nellle. public speaking Instructor at
the Junior hign, mid tamed at the
following schools: Westslde, Oak
Drove, Lone Pine, Howard and the
Seventh Day Adventlst academy and
St. Mary's academy. Mrs. Alex Spar
row and Mrs. w. W. Aldrlch drove the
speakers to the various schoola.
The talks were given In behalf of
the Jackson county health seal sale
campaign and tne Medford. schools
are co-operating with the health as
sociation In their program.

1 cup cooked asparogus.
1 cup cooked, sliced carrots.
!i teaspoon salt.
1 tablespoon chopped onions.
1 tablespoon chopped parsley.
Mix ingredients. Chill. Sorve on
shredded lettuce. Top with dress
ing. Dressing
cup mayonyalse.
3 tablespoons chopped olives.
2 tablespoons chill sauce.
teaspoon salt.
14 teaspoon paprika.
1 teaspoon lemon Juice.
Mix ingredient. Chill and serve.
Sour Cream Doughnuts
3 eggs, beaten. -l'i
cups granulated sugar.
1 cups sour cream.
1 teaspoon vanilla.
1 teaspoon salt.
12 teaspoons cinnamon.
5 cups flour.
1 teaspoon baking powder.
Ii teaspoons soda.
Beat eggs and add sugar. Add
cream. Beat 2 minutes. Add rest
of the ingredients and mix lightly.
If the dough Is too sticky to handle
easily, add a little more flour. Chill
dough. Divide It Into helves and
roll out each half on a floured board.
When dough Is one-third of an inch
thirk. cut out doutrhnuts nnd fry

until brown In deep hot fat.
Cider Fruit Punch
cup granulated 6Ugar.
2-8 cup pineapple Juice.
1 cup orange Juice.
cup lemon Juice.
4 cups cider.
Boll sugar and Juices together for
two minutes. Cool. Add cider and
chill.
