give a lecture tonight. In the First
Baptist church of Sacramento, on his
personal experiences among the Choc
taw and Cherokee Indians.
Leases Station 8. M. Wilcox, for

the Phlpps service station at North
Riverside avenue and Jackson boule
vard from Dr. I. D. Phlpps. owner.
Mr. Wilcox Is now actively operating
the station and Is featuring the Mo

Civilians to Meet Civilian em
ployes of Medford CCC headquarters
will hold a business meeting at the
downtown office Friday at 4 p. m.
About 50 Medford residents are em
ployed In the CCC offices and they
have formed a club for occasional
social affairs. Fred Butler Is presi
dent. Mary Waldon. secretary, and
Jack Hartley, treasurer.
Fines Levied B. C. Mannle, 46, a
tourist from North Dakota, was fined
10 In city court thts morning for
being drunk In his parked car near
Beck's bakery yesterday. Edward J.
Bruley, 39. of Medford was fined 5
for disorderly conduct following an
altercation In a local pool room yes
terday. Both men were arrested by
city police.
Special Thursday The special
sleeper which the Southern Pacific
will run to San Francisco for the
California-Stanford game Saturday
will leave here Thursday evening, thus
giving an extra day in the south.
Reservations for berths must be mode
in advance with the local passenger
agent to Insure sleeping quarters.
The return trip may be made any
time within the next ten days.
To Coqnllle John W. Clabaugh,
state police recruit stationed here for
the past 10 days, left for Coquille
this morning where . he will begin
his permanent assignment. He will
help In the enforcement of fish and
game laws. Clabaugh, who recently
retired from baseball and was for four
years a star with the Portland Beav
ers, will move his family from Port
land to Coquille In the near future.
He was known is baseball circles as
"Moose" Clabaugh.
Park Roads Open Snow fell again
last night In Crater Lake national
park, eight Inches being reported at
Annie Spring this morning, Jackson
County Chamber of Commerce an
nounced. Total snow depth was re
ported as 40 Inches. Park snow plow
wts working and It was expected the
road to the lake rim would be opened
by noon. Chains were advised for
cars. Weather was described as ciouay
with the temperature slightly above
freezing this mornlrtfl.

18 Inches of snow covered the Siski
you divide and the Ashland scenic
loop drive was closed. The snow ex
tended about three mites down the
Applegate slope. All roads except the
main one In the Applegate district
were muddy and chains were needed.
All roads In the Butte Falls area were
extremely muddy, with the small roads
practically closed. The road from
Butte Falls to Prospect was in bad
condition and chains were required.
It was possible to get through to
Lake of the Woods by using chains.
It was raining this morning at Lake
of the Woods and Fish lake. It was
raining and snowing In the Union
Creek district. Union Creek roads
generally were In good condition.
YOUTH COUNCIL MEET
WELL ATTENDED SAYS
James M. Hamilton, pastor of the
local Christian church, who served
as . one of the resource leaders in
the recent assembly of the Oregon
Christian Youth Council at Forest
Grove, report over 400 delegates rep
resenting eleven denominations of
the state attended. Largest delega
tions came from the following
churches, listed in order of -delegates
present: Christian, Congrega
tional, Methodist, Presbyterian, Bap
tist, Lutheran and Episcopal.
Arthur Stanley, president of the
Oregon council, gave a report ot
what he saw and heard In the Inter
church meetings held across the
Atlantic this summer at Oxford and
Edinburgh. The two guest speakers
at Forrest Grove were Msrtin
Hsrvey, New Yom City, president
of North American Christian Youth
Council, and Dr. L. Foster Wood,
also from New York, representative
of the federal council of churchea.
Donald Doria of Salem was elected
president tor the next annual as
sembly to meet In McMlnvllle.
Of local interest, Mr. Hamilton re
ports the possibility of organizing a
Medford council of Christian youth
as a part of the greater Oregon
counoll, and the bringing of some
national leaders and state officers
to southern Oregon In the spring
