Given Study Group
Thursday Morning Study club held
their regular meeting the past week
with three very Interesting book re
views given by members for the pro
gram. Mrs. Prank Newman reported on
"Europe Today: Viewed Without
Alarm" by Walter MUUs. giving an
especially fine talk on the subject.
She also gave some significant facts
obtained from peace literature apro
pos of the subject.

Hostess for WCTU
The regular meeting of the Wom
en's Christian Temperance union was
held Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Belle E. Littrell with
a large attendance. Mrs. Minnie E.
Brown, president, called the meeting
to order and a song was sung by the
group with Mrs. Ray A. Pence leading
the music.
Mrs. Sherman L. Divine gave an
Inspirational talk on "World Peace'
for the devotlonals. She said that
peace could not be obtained by force
or laws but by love, cooperation and
understanding. Mrs. M. Russell and
group gave a playlet "Why We Should
Take the Union Signal", explaining
congressional proceedings in Wash
ington, D. C, and also the fight
on alcohol. Mra. Carl Knutson closed
the meeting with a prayer.
Mrs. Eva Younger will be hostess
for the next meeting November 30.
Christian Church
Circle Has Program
The Circle of the First Christian
church held their regular meeting
Tuesday evening with Miss Marjone
Gregory leader. She led the devo
tional period on the theme "The
Courageous Use of Money."
The topic for the evening was on
four aspects of Japanese life and
problems. Political Japan was pre
sented by Earl House and he dis
cussed the posit Ion Japan holds
among the other nations. A discus
sion of the three major religions
of Japan Shinto! sm. Buddhism ana
Christianity and the Christian boys
and girls schools was given by Miss
Dorothy Montelth. Harry Young gave
a resume of the industrial prob
lems, telling of the difficulties of
the farm and factory work.
The program concluded with the
leader describing the social problems
and the group discussing customs
and traditions of Japan. Oames and
refreshments followed. The next
meeting will be December 14.

The week of prayer services of
the Woman's Missionary aoclety of
the . Methodist Episcopal church
South were held Tuesday and Wed
nesday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. W. C. Mc Culston.
Mrs. Mc Culston was leader for the
Thesday program, the subject being
"Our Comrades Along the Highroad,"
alluding to the missionaries' and
deaconesses Uvea consecrated to
service.
Mrs. Taylor was leader for Wednes
day's program which was "Serving
Him", a tribute to those who have
passed along the highroad of service
and also to the many splendid wom
en still serving In the many foreign
fields and at home. Mrs. John Hub
ler sang several aolos appropriate for
the occasion which were greatly ap
preciated by her audience.
A generous offering waa given for
the retirement fund and relief of
the church workers.
The social meeting of the month
will be held Tuesday at the church
with Mrs. Peters as hostess.

Plans Gala Event
Friday night, November 10th, will
be "Dad's Night" at the Washington
school Parent-Teachers meeting to
be held in the Washington school
building. A splendid program, re
plete with entertainment, singing, a
feature address and refreshments,
will make this a most enjoyable
gathering of parents and teachers.
A special nurse will be on hand to
take care of children of parents who
attend, should they desire to bring
their kiddles.
The "Dad's Night" program will
begin with an open house from 7:00
to 8:00 o'clock. The meeting which
will follow will open with a commu
nity sing with a mixed quartet fea
tured. After the musical portion of
the program, Mr. Clifton Pond will
address the parents and teachers on
the subject "Home Study." Enter
taining games and refreshments will
complete the enjoyable program. The
refreshment committee for "Dad's
Night" comprises Verne Shangle,
Arch Work, Clifton Pond and James
Hardy.
Guild Girls Will
Entertain Monday
The World wide guild girls of the
First Baptist church are sponsoring
an entertainment and social Monday
evening, at 8 o'clock In the basement
of the church to raise money for ex
penses of the coming year. A play
entitled "One Dozen Pink Roses", is
to be given by the girls and also a
skit portraying the closing day In a
country achool.
At the conclusion of the program
tnere will be a short devotional, ex.
plaining the purpose, activities and
alms of the organization. There will
also be a candle-light service and
reconsecratlon of the girls to the
guild standarda. A free will offering
win be taken and all church mem
bera and friends are Invited to at
tend.

Daughtera of Union Veterans of
the Civil War met Friday evening at
the armory with Mrs. Ora Cox. past
department president and now na
tional patriotic Instructor, In charge
of the Initiation ceremonlea. Mlaa

Mra. Minnie Jarmln were Initiated
Into the group.
A delightful social hour followed

Kindergarten Has
Field Trip Tuesday
Tuesday morning the children of
the Happy Hour kindergarten made
their first field trip. They went to
Ford's truck farm on the Jackson
ville highway where they sav many
pumpkins, melons, etc They were
also much Interested In the farm
animals. From there they went to
Stewart's turkey farm on Ross lane.
After viewing the several thousand
turkeys there they completed the
morning by playing at the Padgham
country place. All the children are
eagerly loklng forward to the next
trip which will be aoon,
