Ronald Colman, fresh from his tri
umphs In "Lost Horizon." turns to an
entirely different characterization In
"The Prisoner of Zenda. 'opening a
three-day showing today at the New
Craterian theater.
As the daring adventurer In this
famous story by Anthony Hope. Col
man portrays a dual role that of
Rudolph Rassendyll, gentleman, army
officer. Imbued with a zest for dan
ger and that of King Rudolph, care
free, light-hearted, without too much
regard for his obligations. When the
two meet on the eve of the king's
coronation, and together have a fling
before the king renounces his style
of riotous living upon taking over
the throne, Rassendyll first begins to
learn of the strange part he is to
play in the history of the kingdom.
Following the party Jt la discov
ered that the king haa been plied
with doped wine and is In no con
dition to take part in the corona
tion. It Is then that Rassendyll's
llkenss to the king is noticed and
he la prevailed upon to portray the
role of his distant cousin. Later,
when ther eal king, during the other's
absence, is kidnaped and held pris
oner in the castle at Zenda, the real
' adventure begins and does not cul
minate until after a series of high
adventures, duels, political intrigue
and romance has been brought Into
the action.
The rote of Princess Palvla, who,
prepared to give herself to a king
she does not love, finds herself en
amored by the Imitator, Is Madeleine
Carroll, admittedly the most beauti
ful actress on the screen. As Rupert
of Hentzair. whose reckless daring is
matched only by his dashing attrac
tion for the ladles, is Douglas Fair
banks, Jr., was chosen. Others In
the cast include Mary Astor as An
toinette de Mauban, C. Aubrey Smith
as Colonel Zapt, Raymond Massey as
the treacherous Black Michael, and
David Niven as Fritz von Tarlenhelm.

Society Organized
Constitution and by-laws were
adopted at a meeting Wednesday
night of the Southern Oregon Cin
ema club, recently organized for the
entertainment and instruction of
professional and amateur motion
picture photographers.
Dr. Edwin R. Durno showed movies
he had taken of the southern Cal
ifornia country and colored pictures
of Crater lake.. One of the objects
of the club Is to provide a place
where pictures may be presented for
general review and constructive
criticism.
The club will meet at 7:30 p. nv
on the first Wednesday of each
month at the Baldwin piano shop.
Anyone interested in motion pic
tures" as a hobby or profession is
eligible to Join. Applications may
be procured from H. D. Kern, presi
dent, at the California Oregon Power
company or from Mark Taylor, vice
president, at Brophy's jewelry store.
