AUTOIST SUFFERS
LOSS OF EYE IN
PLUNGE OFF BANK
Eugene I. Parka, 38. of 0 Emit Jack
ton boulevard, suffered the loa of
hla t1t eye lute Friday night when
hia car plunged over a. 30-foot em
bankment about , one-half mile east
of the HUlcreat orchards and rolled
over several times. He la confined
In Community hospital.
Dr. A. N. Johnaon, attending phy
sician, stated that It appeared a twig
from a tree had apparently crashed
through the windshield and aprared
Parka' eye. The victim aufercd no
other head cuts, the doctor said,
although- he was being closely ob
served on the possibility he received
a skull fracture.
Parka told the physician he failed
to moke a turn In the freshly
graveled road, skidded and tumbled
over the grade.
According to a city police report
of the mlfthap. Parka had taken some

waa returning when the accident oc
curred . B. L. Dodge of route 4,
returning from town, saw young
Parka wandering along the road Just
east of the Rogue Vntley Golf club
on Carpenter hill and picked him up
and took him to the hospital, police
said.
The car, a 1931 Ford coach, waa
towed Into Medford by Ralph Parks,
brother of the Injured man.
City police report that young Parks
also lost a billfold containing about
40.

lars, pfuuied In Ashland and Medford
recently, have been sent to federal
authorities In Portland by state po
lice, it waa announced today.
One bogus dollar, made of lead
and an exceptionally good Imitation
of the genuine, waa passed at MeNatr
brothers drug store In Ashland last
Friday. Two others were discovered
by employes of Newbury's store in
Medford. State police say the coun
terfeit coins are slightly lighter than
real onea and can be detected by
their slippery feeling when rubbed
between the fingers.

from a heart attack at the home
of his daughter. Mrs. Leon T. White

The Southern Oregon Civic Music
association membership enrollment
wll get under way with a "klrkoff"
banquet at the Medford hotel Mon
day evening at 8:15 o'clock, and more
than 1M) members are expected to
attend.
The enrollment will be held dur
ing the week of November 8 to No
vember 13 and teems of workers have
already been made up to serve under
team captains In a week's concen
trated campaign, according to W. F.
Isaacs, president of the association.
According to the plana of the
organization, membership cards will
be sold at 15.00 each and will admit
the holder to all civic concerta dur
ing the season. Enrollment will last
one week only with everyone, Inter
ested Invited to Join and no tickets
will be sold after that time and none
will be available at the box office
for Individual performances.
A strictly non-profit organization,
the music group will sponsor at least
three and possibly more allows and
concerts during the winter months.
The world's outstanding artlsta are
available and the list of performers
for Medford will be chosen by a local
committee.
Bam Harrington of New York, west
ern representative of Civic Concert
Service Inc.. is in Medford and will
preside at the meeting Monday and
explain the Civic Music seaoclatlon
plans. The Civic Concert Service Is
a subsidiary of the National Broad
casting company and has organised
the civic music groups all over the
United StAtea in a revival of concert
Interest.

SET FOR TUESDAY
Election of a director will be held
next Tuesday for the first division
of the Medford Irrigation district.
J. G. Cameron has been nominated,
and no write-ins are permitted, un
der irrigation district laws. The
polling place will be the farmhouse
of the HI Merest orchards. The polls
will be open from eight to five
o'clock.
The same day an election of a
dlrector-at-large for the Talent dis
trict will be held, with the district
office at Talent as the polling place.
