Dramatic Picture
of the Sea Scores
Hit At Craterian
A trial of a sea captain which
electrified the world some ninety
yeara ago Is powerfully and bril
liantly brought back to life In the
eplo motion picture "Souls at Bea."
which opened at the Craterian the

Souls at Sea" Is the motion pic
ture treatment of the famoua trial
of "Nuggln" Taylor, sea csptaln of
the '40'a, who assumed command of
the brig "William Brown" when that
ship caught fire In mld-Atlantle
shortly after her master died. Taylor
Is played by Gary cooper, wno nara
ly performed as well In any -of his
long string of credible adventure
stories possibly because he waa re-
enacting a story from history's psges
for the first time.
The "Wllllsm Brown" wsa squtp-

Taylor realized that he could never
bring the entire ship's company to

trial to determine wno anouid oe
permitted to go aboard the llfeboate
and who should be oroerea at pis
tol point to remain aboard and go
to the bottom witn tne lu-mira
vessel. He Included himself among
the survivors not because he wsnted
to save his life, ho Ister told
admiralty court, but because he
knew ho waa the only man who
could bring the life-boats safely
through to land.
There followed a trial wnicn
now enlc among sea trlala. Taylor
was accused of manalaughter on the
high seaa not only by most of the
survivors, but what hurt, most, by
his sweetheart, played by beautiful
Francea Dee.
This powerful picture Uste in its
cast George Raft who Is superb as
the hard-boiled mate of tne vessel
who would steal a kernel of corn
from a hen but would follow mi
csntaln to the grave; Henry wir
