TO LOVE
OF TRAPPER FOR DOG
JTJNTURA. Ore., Sept. 30. (py Th
deaths of two persons here Saturday
in what Sheriff C. W. Glenn of Mal
heur county said was a murder and
suicide waa attributed to the lore of
a trapper for his dog.
The dog, belonging to James Owens,
70. trapper and service station oper
ator, was found poisoned Friday. Ow
ens, the sheriff said, blamed William
Walters, 33. public school Janitor, and
fired two bullets from a revolver into
his heart as Walters walked past his
service station with hla father-In
law, Tom Woodward.
Business men, hearing the shots,
rushed to the scene and stood guard
over Owens while officers were sum
moned from Vale. They satd Owens
stood In the door of the servioe st
tlon holding his loaded revolver. Be
side him was a loaded 80-30 rifle.
As officers approached, Sheriff
Glenn said, Owens stepped Into m
back room of the station and shot
himself through the left temple.

graduates receiving a fellowship from
the bureau of street traffic research
of Harvard university for .a year's
