category falls "The Hoosier School
boy." starring Mlclcey Rooney, and
"Dance Charlie Dance," starring the
biggest collection of top-laugh names
In the Industry. The two hits open
a three-day engagement at the Ri
alto theater today.
The story of "The Hoosier School
boy" deals with the trials and tribu
lations of a young schoolboy, who
because Is shunned by bis small
Indiana birthplace because with
his shell-shocked father, lives on
the other side of the tracks. How
he wins for himself the respect of
his neighbors and Is helped to hap
piness by two lovers is the basis
of a drama that has every element
of suprlse and good old heart
warming, down-to-earth realism. .
Mickey Rooney, who ptays the title
role, adds still greater laurels to his
great acting gallery of characters
and his portrayal of the "Hoosier
Schoolboy" even tops his outstand
ing performances In "Midsummer
Night's Dream and "Slave Ship."
Anne Nagel gives credit to the warm
and sympathetic school teacher, and
Prank Shields is cast as the young
lover who battles for her love. Other
members of the cast are Edward
Pawley and William Gould. Here is
a film that can be heartily recom
mended to everyone between the
ages of six to sixty, a re-' treat f"T

Comedian Stuart Erwin, wise
cracking G lend a Parrell, tough-mugg
Allen Jenkins and tall and lovely
Jean Mulr head the excellent cast
of 'Dance Charlie Dance." The story
concerns a boob from the country
("Stu" Erwln, of course) who Is In
duced by a couple of phony Broad
way theatrical producers to put his
$20,000 inheritance into a show they
want to back. The complications
deal with how they try to trim the
chump and how. in the end, the
chump gives them the trimming of
their lives. Worked in with the
comedy angel are a group of mu
sical numbers with many elaborate
settings.

the cast. The two hits, according to
advance reports, should offer plenty
of thrills for Rialto fans.
ATLANTIC CITY, N. J., Sept. 11-(AV-Julius
H. Barnes, past president
of the U. s. chamber of commerce,
lashed out at President Roosevelt to
day In addressing chamber secretaries
of Pennsylvania, New York and New
Jersey in convention here.
"It Is a very unhealthy situation,"
said Barnes "when for three years
the president of the chamber of com
merce of the United States haa not
been called to the White House for
consultation."
"It la time," the speaker went on,
"for businessmen to m&ke a frank
statement of their case to the entire
citizenry of this country, and not
be timid about It.

Effect At Theatres
rail show schedules go into effect
at Medford theaters today, with eve
ning shows advanced fifteen minutes.
Where It has been the custom
during the summer to open at 7
o'clock at all local theaters, evening
shows will now start at 7 with doors
opening at 6:45. Matinee schedules
remain unchanged.

congreas, western division.

dian Press) Total wheat production
in Canada was placed at 168,101,000
bushels in an estimate Issued to
day by the domination bureau ot
statistic.
The total was made up of 168,
099,000 bushels of spring wheat and
19.103.000 bushels of fall wheat.
Of the spring wheat, the crop la
the prairie provinces account for
164,000.000 bushels aa follows: Mani
toba. 53.000.000; Saskatchewan, 36,
000.000. and Alberta, 76,000.000.
"The drought damage In 1937, par
ticularly in Saskatchewan, haa been
unparalleled In the previous crop
history of the prairie provinces," the
bureau reported.
