Seriously III Warren H. Conrad,
well-known Medford resident, was
reported today to be seriously ill In
a hospital at Sonora, Calif. He un
derwent an operation for the removal
of his appendix Sunday and Is now
threatened with pneumonia, accord
ing to word received here. He trans
ferred from this district to California
some time ago to continue his work
In blister rust control. He was strick
en with appendicitis while in the
field some distance from Sonora.

September 8. weighing pounds.
He has been named Olfford Leon.
Mrs. Tompkins was formerly Miss
Carlta Gifford, who made her home
here with her sister and brother-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. A. Orln Schenck.
She Is also a sister of C. M. and N. L.
Gifford of this city. Dr. Tompkins is
specializing In pediatrics at the Henry
Ford hospital. The American Pedia
trics Journal has published some 01

Evelyn Weatherford. Mr. Weatherford
was one of the speakers of the con
vention, which comprised more than
230 young people of the north Pacific
district. Miss Ruth Scoville won the
district oratorical contest. In which
representatives from morn than 50
churches participated. She is a grad
uate of Pasadena college. This month
she will enroll In the Good Samarltnn
hospital at Nampa, Idaho, to com
plete the nurses course, following
which she will go to Africa as a
missionary for t he Church of the
Nararene.
To Sing Hera Mr. and Mrs. H. H
Lacy, members of the Colored Quin
tette of Cleveland, Ohio, will give a
sacred concert at the Church of the
Naurene. Central avenue, at Jackson
street Thursday at 7:45 p. m. Mr.
Lacy directs the quintette, which has
been singing together for 17 years,
rated the lowest continuous period
for any five men to be engaged In
gospel singing. The quintette has
made three trips across the ocean to
engage In evangelistic singing. They
hare Just returned from an 11 months
tour of Great Britain, Norway and
Sweden. Only Mr. Lacy and his wife
are making a coast series of concerts
at this time. The public la Invited
