Grass Fire The fire department's
chemical crew was called this fore

control. The blaze was quickly ex

i Returning to Ship Paul L. Thomp
son will leave tonight to rejoin his
ship, the U. 8. 8. Cincinnati, after
spending- on 18 -day leave of absence
from the navy at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Shirley.
Mr. Thompson completed ten years
of naval service last May and re
enllsted for another three-year tour
of duty. During the ten years he
has served In several stations, in
cluding the flag division on the
U. 8. 8. Northampton, two years of
shore duty In San Francisco and the
communications office at Pearl Har
bor, Hawaii. At present he la gen
eral supervisor of all radio traffic
on his ship.

Revival Meetings Ten days of re
vival camp meetings were begun to

Lodge to Meet All members of
Talisman lodge No. 31, Knights of
Pythias, were requested today to at-,
tend the regular meeting scheduled
for Monday evening In the hall at
Fifth and Grape streets. A large
number attended last Monday's meet
ing to which a delegation came from
the Grants Pass lodge to participate
In the Initiation of a class of pilgrims

School Tests School readiness tests

for children under six years of age
who wish to enter school this fall.

of the county school superintendent,

the grandson of a cattle baron, torn
between love of a girl and loyalty to

to be dispossessing the girl of right

To Conference Gordon R. Green,
division manager here of American
Fruit Growers, Inc., will leave by piano
tomorrow morning for Chicago where
he will attend a conference of com
pany executives and the International
pear, and apple convention at which
fruit buyers from all parts of the
world will gather. Mr. Green expects
to be back In Medford next Wednes
day, returning by plane.
Return from East Wayne May, em
ployed by the United Air Lines in
Oakland, Cal., and his father. Earl
May, returned to their home here at
604 South Newtown street Monday
after vacationing in the east. They
went ea3t by plane and on the re
turn trip took delivery of a new auto
mobile at Detroit, driving from there
to Medford. Wayne will visit with
his parents here until next Wednes
day and then return to Oakland.
