The star who has become famous

Picture Academy Award of her por
trayal of Anna Held In "The Great
Zlegfeld", Is seen as an exotic woman
of International Intrigue.
The story, from the pen of Baron
ess Orczy, moves from Vienna to
Warsaw, into Russia and back to
Paris and London, with suspenseful
action at every step. The spies sus
pect each other and rightfully. Death
la close on their heels many times
but they outwit It and eventually
romance brings them together.

from the two rare candlesticks, each
of which has a secret compartment,
that Powell Is to deliver to a friend
of the Prince in fit. Petersburg.
Powell hides the Orand Duke's letter
In one of the secret compartments
and, to make things more interesting,
his rival agent, seeking the evidence
that will destroy him, hides her evi
dence In the other compartment.
When the candlesticks are stolen,
then follows the chase across the
countries of Europe, each trying to
outwit the other in a mad pursuit
of the all-important letters.

A novel back stage plot, charged
with action and highly hilarious situ
ations, forms the background for the
musical comedy "New Faces of 1037",
coming Thursday to the New Crater
ian theatre. Heading the cast are
Joe Penner and Parkyakarkus, with
Milton Berle, Harriet HUliard. Wil
liam Brady, Jerome Cowan and Thel
ma Leeds also featured.
Embellishing the story are five
colorful production numbers intro
ducing a galaxy of talent to the
screen In songs, dances and novelty
acts.
The story reveals the questionable
operations of a producer of stage
plays. Romantic complications upset
the apple cart. Practically all the
action takes place backstage, although
there are several diversified Incidents
to furnish variety.
A wealth of new talent in the sup
porting cast Includes Lorraine Kru
ger, dancer and singer; Ann Miller,
clever tap dancer; the Four Playboys,
rhythm group; Lowe, Hlte and Stan
ley, novelty dancers; Eddie Rio and
Bros., eccentric dancers; Lorla Bros.,
Mexican entertainers, and many
others.

Filmed entirely In the great north,
vest at Astoria, Oregon, "Roaring
Timber", comes to trie Rlalto theatre
today for a three day run with Jack
Holt in the starring role as a hard,
fisted timber boss. Bolt has recently
appeared as a Roosevelt Rough Rider,
an Alaskan poacher, a Foreign le
gionnaire and a deep-sea diver, but
his role as an Oregon lumberjack Is
said to be his most Interesting char
acterization to date.
.'.'The story of "Roaring Timber"
presents Holt as the hard-driving
boss of a lumber camp In the bleak
north tlroberlands. He Is challenged
by one of the greatest Jobs of his
career when he agrees to cut a
record volume of lumber within six
months. His herculean task Is fur
ther complicated by the untimely
death of bis employer and the conse
quent assumption of executive super
vision by the letter's Park Avenue
daughter.
Grace Bradley, a fast rising screen
star, appears opposite Holt In the
role of the Manhattan debutante
who Is suddenly and unexpectedly
thrust Into the rough-and-tumble
activities of the Oregon lumber camp.
With the machinations of her lath
er's former timber boss and head
engineer, a treacherous scheme Is
plotted to turn the daughter's trust
away from Holt, forcing him to quit
his poet.
A sudden turn of affairs, however,
reveals the treachery and things turn
out for the better with a thrilling
and surprising climax. "Roaring Tim.
ber" also features Ruth Donnelly
and Raymond Hstton In comedy
parts. J. Farrell Mac Don aid, Fred
Kohler, Jr., and Wlllard Robertson.
Walter Brennan, winner of this
year's Academy Award tor the finest
character portrayal of the year. Is
starred In Peter B. Kyne's "The At
fairs of Cappy Ricks", which plays
on the same bill. Mary Brian, Lyle

jured at 60 while firemen and
soldiers reported more bodies were
still under the splintered remains of
a wooden passenger coach.

ley, 18, confessed to Eugene police
today that he robbed sleeping com
partments of a Pullman car enroute
from Salem io Medtord Tuesday.

bing sleeping cars of a Portland
bound S. P. & S. passenger train
Saturday allegedly escaping with
300 or MOO In cash, railroad tickets
and watches.
Bradley was discovered ransacking
a car as a Southern Pacific train
moved south through the Willamette
valley. He Jumped off the train at
Divide, 30 miles south of here, but
was captured lster by a section fore
man. He Is held In Lane county Jail
pending arraignment.
