Ferguson, fastest fat man, are also
favored to repeat last year'a triumphs.

ker, chairman of the barbecue com
mittee, a 760-pound atall-fed steer

furnish the meat for the free barbe
cue in the evening on the town ball
grounds.
Two dances are planned by the
committees. One will be on the nlgnt
of the fair while the other will be
held sometime before the fair In or
der to raise prise money. Both will
be beld on the town pavilion. Con
cession booths will Una the streets
throughout the festivities.

Tbe McMahon left ber three
years ago, taking with them a bob
tailed gray kitten, one of a litter of
bobtails born at the .fairgrounds
buildings, then used aa quartermaster
warehouse.
Says MaJ. McMahon In hi letter
asking another: "Tbe little animal
traveled the length and breadth of
tbe Pactflo coast with us, went with
us in our car to the farthest reach
of Cape Cod, apent two years with
us at Leavenworth and cam to Ala
bama with us."
MaJ. McMahon relate tbe aad tale
of the deatb of tbe widely-traveled
feline a abort time ago and, averring
that a long-tailed cat looks like a
monstrosity to the family now, Is
seeking another like the deceased
pet.
Medford'a population of short-tailed
Jackson and Josephine counties, the
fairs have been financially auccessful
from the outset.
AT CRATER LAKE
CRATER LAKE, July 39. (SpU
Heeded by Monroe Smith, national
director, 31 members of the Amerl
csn Youth Hostels, Inc., were vis
itors here yesterday while en route
from Mt, Rainier to Yosemlte.
The group of cyclists, all from
Northfleld and Boston, Mass., Is the
first of the organisation to visit the
Pacific coast. Information Is being
gathered for several youth tours to
the west next year. The trips are
similar to those which have proved
popular In Germany. Austria and
other European countries.
Plana are underway for the estab
lishment of hostela In Portland. Med
ford snd other Oregon cities. Smith
said. Twelve hostels are underway or
completed in California and several
are planned for Washington, be
added.
The present group Is covering
much of the Journey from the east
on trains but relying on bicycles to
mske side trips. Esch member pays
00 for 00 day food, lodging snd
other expenses, outside of train fare
There are no restrictions to mem
bership. Ages in the group here
ranged from 13 to SI, with the 13-year-old
pedaling with the best of
them.

eny. About half have been bob-tailed
and more have had stx-toed pedal
extremeties.

Tiger, who dqes not have a short
tall but boast 24 toes.

of Sassy's 70-odd children. It be
comes apparent that MaJ. McMahon's
friends here will probably have lit
tle difficulty locating, a bob-tailed
cat to replace the late lamented
McMahon pet.

Lodge, newest of the tourist and
sportsmen's centers on the celebrated
fishing stresm.

BOY SCOUT CAMP
AT LAKE 0' WOODS
IN FIRST PERIOD
First session of Boy Scout summer
camp opened last Sunday at Lak
of the Woods with scouts from 13
different troops, tbe Sea Scout Ship
and a Lone Scout attending. Tbe
boys are from Medford, Ashland.
Grants pass. Central Point and Ten
nant, Cal. Scout registered for th
remaining three week of camp art
from Weed, Dunsmulr, Mt. Shssta,
McCloud, Yreka and Prospect, In ad
dition to the otber communities.
Every registered troop In the coun
cil will be represented at tbe camp
in at least on of the session. In
msny Instances the scoutmaster and
other adult leadera are accompanying
their scouts and camping as Indi
vidual troops under council super
vision.
Camp leadership la most efficient.
Irving P. Beealey, scout executive, Is

supervision of Russell Miller, life
guard of much experience and ex
cellent training. Tom Emmen Is
camp doctor and first aid Instructor;
