scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The question of leadership 'may be
settled at that time.
The administration spokesman aald
public opposition to the court bill
voiced yesterday by Governor Her
bert H. Lehman of New York waa
not particularly surprising to the
administration, but thst the tim
ing of the publication of his letter
to Senator Wagner (D., N.Y.) was
"deadly" aimed.
The spokesman added that no one
In responsible positions In Washing
ton waa "furious" or particularly
"jolted" by Lehman's action, least
of all President Roosevelt.
He said frankly, however, that Al
though Lehman's attitude toward the
bill had been known for some time,
the administration had not ex
pected him to make his views pub
lic. In that respect, he added, the
New York governor's action was look
ed upon as "rather gratuitous."

By Inference, thts spokesman In

be a matter for congress to work out.
At the cap t tot, Barkley said , lead

Wheeler and other opponents re

that some of their number wanted
to discuss the bill further before a

The Montanan denied the change
was a sign of weakness. "We've got
