On Naval Leave Warren W. Den-,
ney. son of Mrs. Delia Denney, Is
spending a fortnight's leave from the
united States navy at his home here
on Route a. He enlisted in th navy !
early In April and has just completed j
three months of preliminary training
at San Diego. He has been selected
for the hospital corps school and will
report at the end of his leave to1
the. naval hospital in San Diego for!
a 16 weeks' course of study. A naval
career seems quite promising and he
likes the service, Denney said.
Gets Honor Rating Edmund B.
Keep, Medford youth who enlisted In
the United States navy last February
16, has won the title of "period of
training honor man' 'of his company,
It was announced In a letter received
today from Lieut. Com. W. B. Cole
man .training officer at the San
Diego station. The award is based
on attention to duty, Initiative, abil
ity to profit from Instruction and
personal appearance during the pe
riod of training, the officer wrote.
There were 134 recruits from prac
tically all states west of the Missis
sippi In the company, Coleman said.
TRANSIENT JAILED
FOR INTOXICATION
Jack Mike Huh ton, transient charg
ed with being Intoxicated on a publlo
highway, was sentenced to ten days
In the county Jail yesterday on a
plea of guilty, by Justice of the Peace
W. R. Coleman. Huh ton waa arrested
on the Pacific highway near Talent.
Chester E. Carter of Medford was
assessed II and costs for defective
headlights on his auto. The arresting
officer testified lens in both front
lights were broken.
Edgar E. Barnard of Bend was fined
ai and costs for having no tall light,
and Howell M. Metcalf of Klamath
Falls was assessed the same for no
muffler on his auto.
Horace R. Turpi n, driver for a truck
line, was fined 91 and cost for oper
ating an auto of excessive length.

wanted to visit," Ward wrote to his

A graduate of Jacksonville high
school, young Ward has served In and

large part of his surplus cash to our
chase Oriental merchandise and
curios which he plana to bring with
him when he comes home on fur
lough next winter, he wrote.
