New Forest Pumps Two new
pumps for use In suppressing timber
fires were added today to the equip
ment of the Rogue River national
'forest. They are of a type never used
on this forest before. Attached to
. truck engines, the pumps will de
velop a maximum pressure of 100
pounds to the square Inch, forest
headquarters said. They were placed
In service In the Applegate and Union
Creek districts.
ANTITOXIN USE
STOPS TETANUS
On the Fourth of July there are
always several accidents due to fire
crackers, etc., In every community.
Up to a few years ago Fourth of
July accidents almost Invariably led
to tetanus, commonly called lock-jaw.
Now, due to the efforts of the medi
cal profession, an antitoxin has been
developed that eliminates any chance
of Infection of this dread disease.
The -mortality rate was almost 100
per cent a few years ago, but now so
few cases are reported due to the
use of the antitoxin. This is just
another example of the advances that
the medical profession has made dur
ing the past few years. ,

school band will hold a rehearsal at
the school at 6 o'clock tomorrow
night. Purpose of the rehearsal Is
to prepare for participation In the
United Spanish War Veterans state
encampment.

dinner. The celebration was arrang
ed by the Rogue River Townsend
club and chamher of commerce.
Practice Tonight Senior high
school girls drum corps will hold a
rehearsal at the school at 0 o'clock
this evening. AH members are re
quested to be present as the corps
will prepare for participation In the
state encampment of the United
Spanish War Veterans which will be
held here July 11, 13, 13 and 14.

Club' Meeting Degree of Honor
Juvenile club will meet Saturday
afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home
of Mrs. Ida M. Wilson, director. All
members are urged to be present and
an award is to be given the member
credited with the largest attendance
of guests or old members. Games
and refreshments are planned for the
afternoon.
Suffers Injury Mrs. Barah Bralth
walt, mother of Mrs. H. B. Esson of
this city, who has been visiting her
daughter. Is in a serious condition
at the Community hospital following
a fall at the Esson home, 522 Park
street, Monday. She slipped and fell
on a bedroom floor, fracturing her
hip and suffering other injuries. Her
condition was reported today as grave.

Returns Home Mrs. Lois Young
returned to her home and studio early
this week from a visit In Salem with
her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. F. L.
Cook, and friends, Dr. and Mrs. E. S.
Fortner. While In Salem, Mrs. Young
contributed to the program of the
state convention of the Christian
church. Other Medford residents at
tending the convention were the Rev.
James M. Hamilton. Mrs. Julia Greg
ory and Mrs. Maybelle Church Clem.
Malting Here Alfred Swenson of
Turlock. Cal., and Cliff Lord of Palo
Alto, are visiting here with F. Kramer
Deuel. Lord Is a former Medford
resident and attended school here.
He Is renewing acquaintances with a
large number of Medford friends.
He Is at present ,wtth the Stanford
Alumni association In Palo Alto.
Swenson is a practicing attorney.
Both are enjoying vacations and will
remain here for another week.

The second annual Jackaon County
Homemakers Vacation camp will be
held at Union Creek forest camp,
July 25-30, Mrs. Mabel c. Mack, coun
ty home demonstration agent, an
nounced today. .
Any homemaker over 18 years of
age may enroll for this camp at the
home demonstration agent'a office.
The purpose of the camp Is to
provide a restful, healthful and in
spirational vacation for women of the
oounty. There will be no work to
do, no meals to prepare, no dishes
to wash, which is a real break for
homemakers. All these tasks will be
taken care of by the small fee charged
each enrollee.
The camp program will Include
sleep, rest, music, nature lore (trees,
shrubs, flowers) , crafts, Ozalld na
ture prints, Christmas wreaths, pine
cone decorations, basketry featuring
the use of native shrubs and plants.
Physical actlvltiea will Include swim
ming, hiking, games, dramatlca and
story-telltng.
Mrs. Mack will be camp director.
She will be assisted by Mrs. Azalea
Sager, state home demonstration
leader, and Miss Helen Ann Thomas,
home demonstration agent-at-large.
Mrs. Mack urges all who are Inter
ested In camp plans to call at her
office In the courthouse for further
Information. Registration should be
comleted at an early date.

tlon of Oregon's newest weapon In j

They were expected to return Tues
day morning, but they didn't. Wor
ried parents waited until Wednes
day noon and then telephoned the
sheriff of Josephine county, who In
turn contacted the state police of
fice In Medford, giving a description
of the car.
The local state police office then
telephoned the broadcasting station
at Roseburg at 5:30 p.m; yesterday,
and out through the ether traveled
the call to arms, none the less ef-
flctent because no crime was In
volved. The Coqultle broadcasting station
picked up the broadcast and sent
It on, and at 0:30 p.m.. Just one
hour after the local state police had
notified Roseburg, the sheriff's of
fice of Josephine county telephoned
the branch In Medford that the two
"lost" youngsters had talked to their
parents over the telephone, and were
on their way home. They were
"found" by a state police highway
patrol car.
