Here are a few of the fascinating scenes visited by James McClure and his Chevrolet during his current
survey of roads in the Mexican Republic Cactus-fenced lanes, bowered with feathery pepper trees, are a
common sight in central Mexico. The pyramid is that of Teuayuca, an interesting landmark of Aztee
civilization. The view under the hood of Mr. McClure's Chevrolet shows how he stores 17 pieces of survey
equipment, including toolbox, ax, and a complete cooking set. The use of the space around the engine has
not affected the cooling qualities of the car, he reports.

It was all Just a show, staged as

for the purpose, was set on fire and
quickly put out by the hand-pump

and huge ten -ton helmets.
Three of the pumper crew were
burned on the hands when they rush

water failed to shoot through the
nozzle when It was expected. They
were Ray Wilson, chief of the Jack

pumper crew. Frank Tracy of Port

All were taken to a doctor's offlco
for treatment.
The rest of the fire suppression was
all fun, somo of ft burlesque. After
the flames were controlled the old

There's one thing you can tell from the
very look of Buick when the man behind
this wheel bugles for road-room-room on the
road is what he's going to get!
For here's the boss car of the bunch this year
and the whole road knows it.
Under that deep-barreled bonnet is the ablest
straight-eight engine in the world you'll

FLINT. Mich, June 37. More than
3800 dealers' service stations are
listed In a booklet released to car
owners throughout the country by
the Buick division of General Motors
In preparation for the summer turing
season.
The service points are listed by
cities end states, including Alaska
and the Dlstrtct of Columbia, and
provide a quick reference to the
traveling motorist. A million copies
are being distributed to car owners.
A feature of the booklet la a section
devoted to ready Identification of
highway traffic signs end tips on
safe driving.
Being a careful driver, you prob
ably pay close attention to signs," It
says. "But do you know how to read
them before you see the lettering?
It's simple, once you are familiar
with the five standard shapes.
"The octagonal sign for STOP
means dangerous corner, through
traffic, atop street, Junction.
"The circular algn for STOP means
railroad crossing.
"A tilted square means slow for
curve, hill, dangerous corner, detour,
soft shoulders, dip, narrow road. And
remember, slow down before you
come to curves, not on them. Use
second gear on steep hills. Should
you find yourself on a soft shoulder,
don't use brakes or disengage the
clutch: simply remove your foot from
the accelerator and let your car slow
down naturally before pulling back
on the road.
"A regular square sign Indicates In
formation: cross road, men working,
hospital cone. Usually this algn gives
you a hint to alow down,
"An oblong sign carries directions:
keep right, no left turn, distance Into
town, speed limit.
"Of course you already know the
arm signals required for safe driving;
arm upward for right turn, arm
straight out for left turn, arm point
ing down for slowing down and stopping."
