mounting to a sensational denoue
ment during a spectacular air battle
fought by two French aces, the heart
aches of the two men over one wo
man form the motive of the story.
Particular Interest has been at
tached to Paul Muni's role, his latest
screen chsracterizatlon since winning
the coveted Academy award.
The story concentrates on a care
free youth Imbued with the tr.artlal
spirit of his country, a lovely girl
who steals Into his heart on the eve
of his departure from Paris to Join
a flying squadron: and a grim pilot,
her husband.
When the young lieutenant arrives
at the flying base, he Is attached to
the unsuspecting pilot as observer,
and they from an "Equipage" They
fly through terrifying fog. they defy
trie death tempo of machlnelgun bul
lets together, they see their compan
ions go crashing to earth In flames.
In this crucible of living death, a
bond of friendship is welded that is
closer than blood. One thing gives
them courage to carry on against the
horrors of war, the inspiration of the
woman left behind. The climax comes
when both men discover their mutual
interest In the girl.
Included In the supporting cast are
Colin Cltve, Vlncc Barnett, Wally Al
bright, Paul Guilfoyle. Adrian Morris.

Gladys George in Thursday Film

and Franchot Ton in leading roles.
"They Gave Him a Gun" opens a
three-day run Thursday at the New
Craterian theatre, classed as one ox
the more lmpdrtant releases from the
studios of Hollywood this season.
Tone deserts genteel-characters to
play a "tough guy"; Tracy deserts the
tough guy" character for a more
sympathetl role; and Gladys George,
following her success in "Valiant Is
the Word for Carrie." play another
valiant role as a war nurse who mar
ries a racketeer she falls to save.
Tone starts as a cleric, la drafted
and taught in warfare that "all men
are equal with guns in their hands'
a maxim that leads him to crime and
disaster In later life. Tracy plays the
kindly sideshow barber, his buddy
during the war. who attempts with
Miss George to save the youth from
his ultimate fate.
FORESTRY STAFF
The whole protective force of the
Rogue river national forest will at
tend a guard training school at the
vacant Carberry CCC camp tomor
row, Tuesday and Wednesday, It was
announced by H. C. Obye, assistant
supervisor In charge of fire control.
Purpose of the Bchool Is to give
pre-se&son training in firo discovery,
location, control and suppression.
Latest methods will be taught, with
emphasis on Improvement In tech
nique developed since last year, Mr.
Obye explained.
Practically the entire forest staff
will attend. Mr. Obye will be in
charge, with rangers serving as In
structors. Bay C. Llndberg, regional
training supervisor at Portland, will
be an adviser.
Ftfty-flve men will receive the
training, about 75 all told to be at
the school. Five Medford Boy Scouts
will attend as student observers.
A state police officer will address
the school tomorrow night on law en
forcement as It pertains to violations
committed on the forests. On Tues
day night A. H. Banwcll, manager of
the Jackson County Chamber of
Commerce will give a talk on the rec
reational demands of the national
forests.
A first aid demonstration will be
given tomorrow night by a CCC surgeon.

from a two weeks' vacation In Yaki
ma, Wash., and Portland. Mr. Van

Court of Honor A Boy Scout court
of honor in the county courthouse

o'clock was announced by Don New
bury, chairman. All scouts, scoutcrs

Klwauls Speaker Dr. C. I. Drum-
mond, county health officer, will be
the principal speaker at tomorrow's
weekly luncheon -meeting of the Kl-
wanls club In the Hotel Medford. The
topic of hts talk Is "Sleeping Dogs."

contains several Important business
matters as well at the address by
Dr. Drummond.
To Arizona Allen and Raymond
Hubbard are leaving tomorrow by
motor for Yuma, Ariz., for an In
definite atay. Allen has been a Mall
Tribune carrier.
Seriously 111 Mrs. C. J. Logan of
Orchard Home Drive near Medford
was reported yesterday as resting
easily though seriously ill in St. Vin
cent's hospital, Portland. She was
taken to the hospital a week ago for
treatment. Mr. Logan, who was with
her, returned home Friday.
Draws Fine David L. Carey, 00, of
Sams Valley was fined 1 and 94.60
costs in Justice of the peace court
Friday for driving a car without an
operator's license. He pleaded guilty
and explained to Judge William R.
Coleman that he had come here re
cently from Oklahoma and was not
aware of the necessity of procuring
a new license Immediately.

Vacation Enjoyed House-trailer
vacation trips are about ideal, Roland
G. Beach, assistant postmaster, de
clared yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Beach
spent several weeks motoring leisure
ly up the Oregon coast and Mr. Beach
said it was one of the most enjoyable
trips they had ever had. The scenic
attractions along the coast are In
spiring, he said. They made the trip
by motorcar and trailer.
Correct Ion Perl Bonnie Is chef at
Bonnie's Grill and not Mrs. Pearl
Bonnie as was stated a few days ago.
The grill, situated on the Pacific
highway north of Gold Hill, held a
grand opening yesterday, Mr. Bonnie
occupying his position as chef.
