airport late yesterday on return
flight to his headquarters In Spokane
from Oakland, Cal. He was piloting
a Douglas observation plane. He con
tinued north after his chip had been
refueled.

Guard Planes Here Four Washing
ton state national guard plsnes of
the llflth squadron of Spokane made
a brief stop at the Medford airport
yesterday afternoon. They were un
der command of Lieut. -Col. a. A
Sablston. The pilots were met by
Maj. William H. EUenburg and Capt.
Carl Y. Tengwald. Oregon national
guard officers. The planes were on
their way to the Oolden Gate bridpe
dedication ceremontee, -.They will
stop here en route home.
On Bridge Flight Four pilots of
the Washington national guard at
Spokane arrived at Medford munic
ipal airpo-t this morning en route
to San Pianclsco where they were
to join fo. -mat ion flights 'ma part of
the GoK.en Gaw bridge fiesta. The
aviators, each flying a Douglas ob
servation plane, were Capt. C. A
Owen end Lieut. E. H. Malltrom. .
L. Swartz and H. R. Hanson. Each
plane carried a mechanic. The pilots
continued south as soon as their ships
hsd been services.

leave tonight for Portland where he
will resume his regular post on the
staff of Marshal J. T. Summervllle
after substituting at the Medford of
fice for the past two months. Paul
Han In. recently appointed a deputy
marshal, will return to his home here
Sunday after receiving a month's
training In Portland. He will take
charge of the Medford office June 1.
Mr. McLaln will take a federal pris
oner to Portland with him tonight.
THIEVES ESCAPE
KLAMATH FALLS. May 28. (API
City police recovered a stolen car
last night after a bullet-studded
chase along a country highway but
the Joy-riding thieves had escaped be-
for the officers caught up with their
quarry.
Tbe police caught the car run
ning a stop sign shortly after its
theft had been reported by the own
er. W. H. Sams.
They pursued the machine down
the Midland road, firing several shots
that sturck the tall light and punc
tured the body but failed to stop the
driver.
Heavy dust stirred up by the speed
ing csr hid Its route and the police
turned off on a wrong road. Later
they found the stolen car In a ditch,
but a hunt through the fields re
vealed no trace of the thieves.
