Miss Doris Patton
And Wayne Harris
Engagement Is Told
The engagement of Miss Doris Pat
ton, oldest daughter of Mrs. Warner
Patton of Med ford and Berkeley,
Calif., and Wayne Harris, son of Mr.
and Mrs. N. B. Harris of this city,
has been announced.
The announcement ws made by
Miss Patton at the Junior-senior
breakfast at Mills college. Calif.. Sun
day morning. May 23. Miss Patton
will graduate from Mills this year.
The wedding will be an event of
early October and will be solemnized
at the Patton home here.
Mrs. Patton and her two daugh
ters. Helen and Doris, have been re
aiding in California during the past
several months, Mrs. Patton living
tn Berkeley and the Misses Patton
attending achool.
Mr. Harris la a graduate of Medford
high school and also attended South
ern Oregon Normal school in Ashland.
Miss Patton also attended high school
here. Both have scores of friends In
the city who will be much interested
In the forthcoming marriage.
Presentation Set
Friday Morning
Arrangements were today being
completed for the special program to
be presented tomorrow morning at
11 o'clock by Valley school pupils
and faculty at the school.
A three-act operetta "Cinderella." di
rected by Miss Mary Louise Foster, will
include all children of the school in
the cast. Leading roles will be taken
by Harriet Hart as Cinderella, Donald
Graves as the prince, Susan Vilas as
the godmother and Sheila Ryan end
Mary Cox, as the two sisters. Partic
ularly colorful scenery and costumes
have been designed for the produc
tion, it is said. Music -la being ar
ranged by Ray Lewis.
Second presentation will be a
French play. "Bluebird." in two
scenes. Characters ere Harriet Hart,
Susan Vilas. Donald Oraves, Sheila
Ryan, Joan Schwarz, Patsy Sether and
Bruce Pond. The play Is directed by
Miss Poster and Mr. Lewis.
Harriet Hart and 8usan Vilas will
present a tap dance.
All parents and friends of the
school are extended a cordial Invi
tation to view the program, last
schol activity of the year.
Miss Paley To
Become Bride of
A. E. Carr Here
Mr. and Mrs. John F. White an
nounce the coming wedding of their
granddaughter. Margery Elizabeth
Paley, to Abren E. Oarr. Date for the
ceremony has been set" for June 12.
The wedding will be a garden af
fair at the summer home of Mr. aud
Mrs.. White on Wagner creek Miss
Paley will be attended by her sister.
Miss Dorotljy Paley as bridesmaid and
Mr. Oarr'a best man will be Howard
Prultt of Klamath Falls.
Miss Pa'.ey has many friends In
Medford and the valley. She Is a
graduate of Medford high school and
Southern Oregon Normal school. Mr.
Garr is formerly of MarshfKld.
The young couple will make their
home in Yreka, Calif.
Texas Visitor
Arrives Here
Arriving by train this morning
from the south was Mrs. J. F. Skinner
of El Paso. Tex., who plans a visit
here. She is to be the guest of Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Skinner. Mr. Skinner
la her brother-in-law.
The visitor expects to remain tn
Medford the greater part of the summer.
Applegate Women
Planning Visits
BIG APPLEGATE. May 37. (Spl.)
With the approach of summer,
many are looking ahead to vocation
days, and two Applegate women, Mrs.
Wallace Hasklns and Mrs. Frank
Knutzen., already have departed for
cities In the east for extended visits.
Mrs. Hasklns will spend two months
In Illinois as a guest of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helfenstein, and
other relatives In Pekln. She left
by train Sunday for the south, and
while en route will attend the Golden
Gate fiesta. She planned to remain
a few days In the bay region visiting
her aunt, Mrs. Conrad Bontz, at Palo
Alto; Mrs. Wm. Wright at San Fran
cisco, and Mr. and Mrs. Zdeny Storch
at Oakland. Before her departure
Mrs. Hasklns was presented with a
gift from the Upper Applegate com
munity in appreciation of her serv
ices In the Sunday school, the grange
and the Beaver Creek school, where
she teaches.
Mrs. Knutzen left Sunday evening
for Oakland, and after attending the
fiesta will resume her Journey to
waterford, New York, where she will
spend the summer with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. P. Sorrensen. She ex
pected to be accompanied from Oak
land by her brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Sorrensen, and
her aunt, Mrs. Roy Reynolds. Mrs.
Knutzen was complimented with a
farewell dinner Saturday evening at
the home of Mrs. Kathryn Denzer at
Medford.
Both Mrs. Hasklns and Mrs. Knut
zen are active In community affairs,
and their many friends here will be
looking forward to their return in
August.
The Garden Club
All members of the club who have
not received their plants are asked to
call at' Mrs. C. L. Goifs. 410 Beatty
street, this week for them. They are
ell ready to be transplanted now and
should be in the ground.
Regular June meeting of the club
has been postponed to June 10 be
cause of the flower show which is
to be held June 4 and 6. Watch
Sunday paper for classification of
entries and rules.

NEW MODERATOR
COLUMBUS, O., May 27. (AP
Dr. William Hiram Foulks, pastor of
the First church in Newark, N. J.,
was elected late today moderator o
the 149th general assembly of the
Presbyterian Church in the United
States of America.
The vote was 563 for Dr. Foulkes
against 308 for Dr. James A. Kelso,
president of the Western Theological
seminary, Pittsburgh, Pa., the other
candidate.
Dr. Foulkes succeeds Dr. Henry B.
Master of Philadelphia. Besides pre
siding over the general assembly, Dr.
Foulkes becomes charman of the
Presbyterian general council.
Farm Union Meets.
CLATSKANIE. May 27. (AP) Na
tional and Oregon executives of the
Farmers' Union described growing in
fluence and increases In membership
today at the 28th annual convention
of the Oregon branch.
