The death of Bert Wyant Sunday
morning came as a distinct shock to
the neighborhood. He was a brother
of L. H. Wyant and was well and
favorably known here.
Mrs. Harold Zundel, who under
went a major operation Saturday is
reported to be doing as well as
could be expected.
Ivan Tyrrell and wife, who came
to hla father's funeral Saturday,
started home to Rainier Sunday.

Sams Valley Grange has announced
there will be no dance at the Bea
gle hall May 22 as formerly planned,
due to the absence of Mr. Hull, own
er of the hall.
Jacksonville Grange
Regular meeting of Jacksonville
Crange was held May 14. Interesting
reports were given by Henry Conger,
who discussed county weed control
and Chester Wendt. who talked about
cooperative buying and selling.
For the educational committee re
port Mrs. Earl gave an Interesting
resume of the recent lecture by Rich
ard Halliburton, world wide traveler
and lecturer.
Mr. and Mra. Meyers were elected
as alternate delegates to the state
conference.
Plans were completed for the re
turn visit of Jacksonville Grange to
Applegate Grange on Friday, May 28
It la hoped that all Jacksonville
Grangers will plan to attend this
meeting.
Lecture program consisted of drills,
tap dancing and recitations presented
by a number of Royal Neighbors from
Medford. Miss Orover. of Jackson
vllle also gave some readings. The
program wa much enjoyed by every
one. After a seed guessing contest, re
freshments were served In the dining
hall by the committee In charge.
Home Economics club will meet
with Mrs. Meyers on their regular
meeting day, Wednesday, May 26.

lature for aid In preserving Thes
plan hall, said to be the oldest
theater building west of the Alle-
ghenles. The theater was built in
1855. During the Civil war It served

Mr. and Mrs. William Ludwig
spent the week-end at Charleston in
the Coos bay region, where Mr. Lud
wig will teach the seventh and eighth
grades next year. At present he Is
teaching the upper grade room at
Applegate. Mra. Ludwig has been re
elected to teach at Missouri Flat.
With approach of summer days
recreational spots of the Applegate
are regaining their seasonal popular

A double Improvement was accom
plished. Sunday at Upper Applegate
Grange hall, when CCO workers from
Camp Applegate donated labor and
use of a bulldozer in removing
gravel at the rear of tha hall. Clear
lng of the ground la the first step
toward addition of a kitchen to the
hall and the gravel removed was
spread over the ground surrounding
the building, which will remedy
somewhat serious muddy conditions
during stormy weather. Construction
of the kitchen and dining room,
which will seat ISO people, will begin
