Oem and Mineral society at Its regu
lar semi-monthly meeting In the
Jackson County Chamber of Com
merce isst night.
Mr. Bean sketched the geologlo his
tory of agates, quoting from tbe Book
of Oenesla wherein he said they were
mentioned specifically for the first
time.
He told how agates are formed and
where they are found, emphasizing
that they are one stone that cannot
be produced artificially. He illustrst
d his talk by showing specimens of
southern Oregon agates. .
The society planned a field trip In
the Derby district Sunday. Members
are to meet at the chamber of com'
mere at 8:30 and transportation will
be provided for those having no cars,

president. Members were asked to
bring their own lunches, the society
to provide coffee, cream and sugar.

spending large amounts of money in
advertising their attractions snd as
prosperity returns they are Increas
ing their advertising budgets. We
have superb tourist attractions In
southern Oregon but they are of no1
benefit In attracting travelers unless
they know about them.
"The Jackson County Chamber of
Commerce has been carrying on a
constructive program of activities for
the past three years as outlined In
the Mali Tribune Monday. Establish
ment here of the CCC, which In msny
respects hss been a life-saver. Is but
one of the numerous accomplish
ments of the chamber.
"The activities of the chamber.,
however, sre now far out of propor-1
tlon to Its Income snd if our broad
program is to be continued without
curtailment we must have sdditlonsl
income. Alertness, progressive ness and
hard work are no longer sufficient In
themselves. We must also have ade
quate revenue."
It was recalled that the work of
the chamber in the past three years
has been commended far and wide.

SEDAN OVERTURNS
IN CORNER CRASH
A Ford V8 sedan operated by
Thomas W. Gilbert of Sonoma. Cel..
was upset at Fourth and Fir streets
shortly before noon today when It
was hit by an Oldsmoblle sedan
driven by Ira Benjamin Clark ol
Proepect. according to state police.
Total extent of Injuries was a slight
bump on the head of Frances Ma
guln, a passenger In the Gilbert ma
chine. The Oldemoblle was traveling north
on Fir street, state police said, and
crashed into the Ford moving east on
West fourth street st the intersec
tion. The Ford turned over on Its
side snd the Oldsmoblle continued
serosa the street snd Jumped the
curb on the northeast corner of the
Intersection. Left front fender of the
Oldsmoblle was bent, while the Ford
received minor scratches and dents.
Clark, driver of the Oldsmoblle,
told state police he didn't see the
Ollbert car approaching the corner.
