POPPY SALE DAYS
Friday and Saturday, May 31 and
23, were designated as Poppy Days
In Medford by a proclamation Issued
today by Mayor Oeorge W. Porter.
Volunteer workers from the Amer
ican Legion Auxiliary will distribute
popples throughout the city Friday
and Saturday and receive contribu
tions for the welfare of the living
victims of the war, and disabled vet
erans, the widows and fatherless
children.
In the proclamation. Mayor Porter
called upon all citizens to observe
the day by wearing memorial popples
In honor of the World war dead.
The proclamation stated:
"The city of Medford responded
with highest patriotism to our na
tion's call for defenders In 1017 end
1018, sending many of its young men
Into the fighting forces. Some of
these men sacrificed their lives In
the nation's service, dying with more
than 100,000 other Americans to
bring victorious peace.
"It Is fitting that the service end
sacrifice of these gallant young men
should be commemorated annually
by appropriate public observance. As
the poppy, which grew on the battle
fields where so many of them fell,
has become their memorial flower,
there could be no more appropriate
observance than a general wearing
of the poppy in their honor.
"Therefor, I do hereby proclaim
Friday and Saturday, May 31 and 33.
es Poppy Days In the city of Med
ford, and urge all elttrns to show
remembrance of the honor for the
men of the city and of the nation
who gave their Uvea In World war
service by wearing popples on that
day.
"OIO. W. PORTER,
"Mayor of Medford."

FOR USE IN FALL
Tentative plans for remodeling of
the Prospect school building and
construction of a new high school
building were discussed at a meet
ing of the Prospect school board held
here yesterday with C. R. Bowman,
county superintendent.
The board has asked for cost esti
mates and construction plans from
Architects Frank C. Clark and Wil
liam Lalng, Clark to submit plans
for the new building and Lalng for
the remodeling project. Following
submission of the plans, the board
will consider advisable means of fi
nancing the project and presenting
It to voters of the district, together
with alternatives should the cost ap
pear prohibitive.
A report from Prospect states that
at a previous meeting of the school
district It was decided that the
buildings will probably remain at
the present site In Prospect, although
It Is thought there Is some dissension
as to location. Some are said to de
sire a more central site nearer Mc
Leod, and others are believed to
favor a consolidation program.

yesterday that school facilities at
the mountain community have been
Insufficient for the past year or two
but that It was not considered feas
ible to attempt improvement until

finish tentative drafts as soon as
possible as It Is hoped to have the
buildings ready for occupancy by
