Given Wage Increase
KLAMATH FALLS. May 15. (AP)
A general wage increase averaging 10
per cent was announced today by
nearly every lumber company In the
Klamath area. The new scale will
become effective June 1.
This Is the second raise given this
year. Wage boosts of similar size
were granted in January and Feb
ruary. All branches of the Industry, In-,
eluding woods, mill and box factory
operations, are affected.

TENANCY SCHEME
HIT BY ECONOMY
WASHINGTON. May 13. (AP) ;
President Roosevelt's desire for farm
tenancy aids on a "skeleton scale"
raised discussion today of cutting the
proposed 13.000,ooo fund to only
20.000.000 or $50,000,000.
Chairman Jones (D-Tex.) of the
house agriculture committee, spon
sor of the original meosure. said he
would rather put off aiding tenants
until next year than set up a small
scale program.
He added, however, he expected to
discuss tenancy and other farm prob
lems with the president before his
committee acts.
House consideration of these meas
ures has been deferred by the cur
rent economy campaign.
Members of the agriculture com
mittee suggested the president's de
mand for cutting the cost of the pro
gram might be met as follows:
For low interest loans to aid ten
ants and share croppers In buying
farms: SIO.000,000 to 3fl.000.000. In
stead of (50.000. 000. I
For government purchase of eub- i
marginal lands: ilO.000.000. the am
ount proposed In the original bill.
For rehabilitation loans to low In
come farmers for purchase of sup
plies and equipment: Nothing. In
stead of setting up a special 75.-1
000.000 fund for this purpose, mem
bers suggested such loans might be
made out of relief funds.

Cars operated by H. W. Ward of

of Route 1 collided at Western avenue
end Jacksonville highway lust night,
state police reported. Ward suffered
bruised ribs but declined medical aid,
the report said. Other occupants were

The front of Ward's car hit th rear
of Klne's, according to the police.
The Ward machine then ran into the
Pruitt filling station, the report said.
